 Fantastic Vegas Value

 Review:

The El Cortez is fantastic Las Vegas value. I've stayed there many times over the years. It has been remodeled in recent years. The tower rooms are really nice.

For an old time Las Vegas experience try one of the rooms above the casino. You can hear casino action but that's what Vegas is all about :)) I just love the place! It also has some great gaming!!

 Hidden Gem

 Review:

Tower rooms are the same as those well touted rooms at the Orleans. Pavillion rooms are more basic but mine were all renovated and fine.

You can't beat the prices or the comps after a little play. I get 2 free rooms and can use them on weekends too and food coupons on very little play. It is a ways from Fremont but not that far and closer to the Deuce bus than many downtown casinos.

Best of all the gambling is the best in Vegas. $5 BJ single deck 3:2 - probably the only one left. Full pay video poker. And a unique live poker game that spreads 1-3 and then 1-6 on the river.

Jackie himself joins the game almost every afternoon with his classic, "One for the money!"

 Last of its kind

 Review:

Jackie Gaughan is a hold over from a different era. It is what old Las Vegas was not so many years ago before the corporate suits showed up.

It is great to see Jackie walking around the casino at night. I highly recommend Roberta's particularly with a LVA 2/1 coupon.

 El Cortez

 Review:

Not in the best downtown location. Full of folks from lower economic classes. But a hidden gem of gambling opportunities. Single deck 3:2 Blackjack, pehaps the only such game left in Vegas. $3 craps with 10 X odds. Good video poker.

Clean, recently renovated and very cheap pavilion rooms. Tower rooms are designed exactly like rooms in the Orleans, very comfortable and spacious. All this at a very low price.

Jackie Gaughn, who once owned a good bit of downtown and is still on the Player's Card lives on the second floor and comes down in the afternoon to play the wildest live poker game. A one dolar to three (six on river) spread limit game. Nothing like it in Vegas. Filled with characters from an old Vegas.

A little play will get you plenty of attention and free room mailings. Often two free rooms over three nights with weekends included as choices. There is a two block walk to the Freemont experiment and the bus to the strip and late at night this feels a little sketchy to some. And there is still a bit too much smoke, but both these things are improving. The two blocks slowly is developing into an extension of attractions and the smoke has been reduced.
