Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino Will be First Ohio Casino to Open
According to the Ohio Casino Control Commission, Cleveland's Horseshoe Casino will be the first casino to open in Ohio and it will be opening the week of May 14.
The commission also determined that Toledo's new Hollywood casino will be opening the week of May 28, but it will not be allowed to open on Memorial Day.
While Hollywood Casino Toledo officials had asked that the decision for Ohio's first casino opening to be left to a coin flip, the commission gave the nod to Cleveland after the Toledo casino has faced some licensing delays.
The exact opening dates will be decided at a later time.
"To get the clarity is welcome. We want to be sure we are not just the first, but the best and we do this in the right way," said Horseshoe Casino General Manager Marcus Glover.
Ohio will be opening two other casinos in Cincinnati and Columbus in 2013.
