The Rising Star Casino & Resort has begun construction on its new 104-room hotel. The Indiana casino currently has a 201-room hotel, but officials are looking to give more gamblers the opportunity to stay the night.
Casino officials also feel the addition of the new hotel is necessary to compete with the increasing number of casinos that are opening in the region. There are more Ohio casinos opening, including the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati and some of the nearby racetracks are applying to add video slots.
“The additional hotel rooms will also aid in protecting the future revenue stream of the city ... from an increasingly competitive marketplace,” said chief executive of parent company Las Vegas-based Full House Resorts Andre Hilliou in a statement. Full House purchased the casino last year for $43 million.
Construction on the hotel is expected to be completed in 2013.
