Ohio's first casino opened Monday night with a flashy music video opening and Vegas-style showgirls. The video, which was used in lieu of a traditional ribbon-cutting, showed images from the city's history as well as some of its sports teams and local landmarks.
The Horseshoe Casino Cleveland opened to the public at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, but hundreds of people were lined up outside as early as 5:30 p.m. VIP guests and winners of an early-admission online sweepstakes were allowed inside early to test out the slots and roulette wheels.
The new northeastern Ohio casino features about 2,100 slot machines, 63 table games, and a 30-table poker room.
Ohio voters approved casino gambling at four sites in the state in 2009, but the casinos are just now beginning to open.
The state's next casino will be opening in Toledo in two weeks and casinos will be opening in Cincinnati and Columbus by next year.
