The Mississippi Gaming Commission is moving closer to granting approval for a December opening for the Magnolia Bluffs Casino in Natchez. The casino has already begun running background checks on those involved in the project.
Background checks generally take about three months to fully conduct and will need to happen for casino owners, general managers, investors or significant shareholders. The investigations will check funding sources and the people who are putting money up for the casino themselves.
"Basically you're determining where the money came from and making sure it comes from a legitimate source," said Gaming Commission Deputy Director Eddie Williams.
"This is standard with all casinos in preparation for licensing," said Williams. "You're making sure this is someone you want doing business in your state."
When open, the new Mississippi casino will feature over 600 slot machines, 10 table games, a restaurant and buffet. The casino's opening is currently set for December 21.
