The online poker company PokerStars is looking to purchase The Atlantic Club Casino Hotel. The company's acquisition of the Atlantic City casino would mark its return to the United States after it was sued by the U.S. government for operating an illegal gambling business over a year ago.
It is rumored that the deal will be worth about $50 million.
PokerStars' competitors will likely try to protest the company owning a regulated New Jersey casino as the company’s founder is still under indictment and out of the U.S., but in July the company resolved its problems with the Department of Justice by paying $731 million to settle the U.S. government’s civil charges.
Both New Jersey and Nevada are both looking to offer regulated online poker within their states.
