Review
Stopped here to qualify for the Harrahs promotion. Limited VP options, lousy pay tables, dirty, dingy and disgusting.
We were going to eat there but, after earning our 25 points, we wanted to get out ASAP. I guess if this is your only option and you are a degenerate gambler, you would go there more than once. We won't be back.
Disappointing
I've gone to this casino many times since it was a cruising paddlewheel. Over the years and thru the new ownerships it has gotten incredibly tight. It is not at all uncommon to spend fifty dollars in a quarter slot machine and get nothing but a rare cherry. The fun quickly disappears when you are inserting your third or fourth twenty dollar bill without having had any wins. I regularly drop between three and five hundred dollars and have not walked out of the casino ahead in many years. It is not that I play off my winnings. I never see them in the first place. Avoid the keno at all costs. I can't wait for the casino in Cape Girardo, missouri to open. Harrahs just has a huge piggy bank in Metropolis and thousands of people futilely contribute.
Harrahs Metropolis
I always stop here on my way back south which I did in September on my way home from Wisconsin. I like that there is a big parking area for my motorhome. I arrived right at supper time so the first thing I did was eat at the buffet. Although a little small, I've found the food and service here always to be good. My waitress made sure I had everything I needed, actually better service than in most restaurants. And I could tell I was almost back in the south because she called me honey! The slots seemed a little tighter than usual but I really ended up almost breaking even. The small amount I lost was far less than the enjoyment from playing in a nice facility.
Tight Slots!
The food is great, the staff is polite and helpful, the casino and entire property is clean. Have been playing at Metropolis for about 5 years now, but the slots have gotten so tight it's losing it's fun. I live in Evansville, IN which has a riverboat, casino aztar on the river front. I quit going there because the slots were so tight, i was constantly just losing money and never won enough to play for a while. I used to win enough at Metropolis to let me stay and have some fun, never won, but never lost a lot after playing several hours. Now you can easily lose 100 dollars in a little over a hour just by betting .30 cents a roll on the penny slots. I like the free rooms, and free food you can earn, but i won't be going back as often if the slots stay so tight. There was a bank of slots that was hard to get to, because people were always playing them. Never won a lot but did get more free games and better chances of winning, now those same machines are almost always open, and rarely give out free games, and when they do they don't pay anything, i played a zeus, got 25 free spins and won $3.47. Not a lot, and during free spins it even has more wild reels. Harrah's Metropolis is a nice place to visit because of the people, but if you want to gamble a lot, go somewhere else.
Nice staff. Great Hotel..Very tight slots!
We use to go here about 1 time per month, but we have noticed over the past year that it was getting harder to get any play time on the slots. So, we have decided to not go back.
The workers are very nice, the atmosphere is good enough (no smoking..yeh!) but the machines have been tightened down way too much. Others we have talked to have noticed it too. It is a little farther away, but I plan on going toward St. Louis casinos for now.

4 Star Hotel, Friendly Staff
Beautiful Hotel. Non-smoking Facility. Very friendly and helpful staff. Casino is a river boat.
Good restaurants, but they do not serve breakfast in the buffet. The Rivercrest serves breakfast daily.
You can earn extra comps M-Th for the restaurants ($14 comp for every 50 points earned up to two per day). The extra comps are good for 24 hours.
Good mix of slots (many new penny machines). Video Poker payback not the best. Over-all experience was good.
