SLOTS ARE HORRIBLE
2015 was a good year at the beginning, since then, its like pulling teeth just to get a bonus, then if you have anything left when you finally hit that forever bonus,it pays squat.2016 is here, its worse,go in with a 100,it takes 50 to 60 dollars before you hit a bonus,if you do.it really has change a 180.I think something is going on down there that authorities don't know about yet.DO YOURSELF A FAVOR.GO TO OKLAHOMA,MORE CHOICES,PLAY LONGER LOOSER SLOTS.
Poor service and worse payouts!
I gamble quite frequently and have never been to a casino so large that is so tight! The players club is a joke especially for table game players. They are understaffed and most dealers move really fast and are rude some smirk when you loose. Finding a waitress to get a drink is almost impossible, a person would be better off getting up walking to the bar and ordering it yourself. It is a nice looking casino but who cares how clean the casino is if they won't payout. Slots are super tight and tables are horrible and overcrowded. Watch the roulette dealers they will swipe winning bets and have trouble with math.
It all depends...
I am from Wichita, Kansas. I frequent the Kansas Star because it is just 10 minutes from my house.
SLOTS: WAY, WAY too tight.
Do I ever win at the slots? Not really. In fact, the majority of other "frequent" slot players who I see when I play have NEVER hit a jackpot since this place opened. If you have the time, it is worth it to drive an additional 30-40 minutes down to Oklahoma if you are interested in winning on slots.
HOTEL: Not bad.
Nice hotel rooms, but they do not have a microwave. I find this strange seeing as how there are several restaurants in this casino--from sandwich and burgers to steaks.
Buffet - Stay AWAY!!! Sometimes it is okay, but other times it is downright awful.
Shark Bar - Excellent burgers. Jalapeno coleslaw, black and blue burger, and fries are very good... Also their pizza is pretty good as well.
Woodfire grille - It is good food. But, for the small portion size and the price... I don't know if it is exactly worth it. When you order a salad, you get a couple leaves, but it looks pretty!
An Pho (Asian Food) - Never ate there, but some of the other players love it.
Deli - I have eaten here a couple of times. It is okay.
CLEANLINESS: Depends on how busy it is.
For some reason, Kansas Star management just simply does NOT staff appropriately for their busy nights. They have been open for a couple of years now, so there is really no excuse. This place can get downright disgusting on Saturday nights. No tissue in stalls and accidents on bathroom floors!!!! Awful...
Visited almost every weekend, for about a year $ a half. Slots are very tight, but the ultimate insult was last night. My wife ran a machine up to about $87, cashed out, & walked away, only to find out the ticket the machine kicked out was for .48 cents. After searching half the casino to find someone to help, got the runaround; even after walking them to the machine & explaining several times. We've spent probably SEVERAL thousand dollars there, but this last insident had soured us so much, we won't set foot in there ever again... Or any other Boyd Gaming facility ever again. If your think of going... Don't!!
This place is so tight it squeeks. Have heard that the state has fined them many times but what does that mean NOTHING It's just the state fining the state means NOTHING so I will go on down the road and spend my money.
This place is so off our stop list. Slots are tighter the the jeans on a teenager.
Was charged 14.95 for a Monday LUNCH that was dried out and old. Web site said that was the week end price. Guess Mondays are week ends to them.
Our over all experience is to just never make the same mistake again.
Hope others don't air the same mistake we did just keep on going.
Don't bother wasting your time! You might as well open their door throw your money in and turn around and leave. I've been there several times and continue to be disappointed!
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
I went to the Star about 8 times now. The last 4 times I went I've lost between $100-$250 within 30 minutes and was ready to leave. I play penny machines typically betting no more than $1 a spin. To lose $250 within 30 minutes is ridiculous. I plan on losing money when I go to casinos. But there is no payout. Period. No fun
UPDATE TO KEEP DRIVING TO OKLAHOMA 2-9-2014
UPDATE TO KANSAS STAR ON FEBRUARY 9th 2014 KEEP DRIVING TO OKLAHOMA:
TRAVELERS BEWARE! The Kansas Star has become the slum of all casinos. The last visit validated my last post, KEEP DRIVING TO OKLAHOMA. Slots were even tighter, patrons were upset, mad and disgruntled on the floor and especially in the high rollers room, where slots were not paying out in the high rollers room or on the main floor. Dirty cups and trash were evident all throughout the casino and only two employees visible working the main playing area. MOST have been layed off, those who do still work there HATE their jobs. Wichitians are in hopes of a new indian casino to be built just north of Wichita. In the mean time, Oklahoma is STILL the place to go to have fun and win. You are only 45 minutes away from the OKLAHOMA casinos.
KEEP DRIVING TO OKLAHOMA!
Keep driving to OKLAHOMA where you have a far greater chance of winning. Read the reviews on trip advisor as well, where many have reviewed this casino ranking it as very tight! Driving by, the outside looks like a big beautiful casino, but after spending a few minutes inside, you will figure out how they could afford it. This is just a honest "heads up" travelers BEFORE you exit the turnpike at the Mulvane turnpike exchange. Oklahoma casinos are only about 45 minutes on south of the Kansas Star!
You feel good going in but things turn ugly when you start to gamble. Have not lost that bad in any other casino. VERY tight slots. If you ever do get a bonus, which sucked up half my bankroll just getting, the payout is insulting.
Beautiful place, but that's all it has, we lost our money so fast we may as well have just driven by and thrown it out the window at them.
This place is awesome! The motel is open and the atmosphere is great! I have been to this casino numerous times and have done very well each time. I am not a big spender but I always seem to break even or spend less than $40 which to me for a night out is not bad. The full casino will open Dec 19, 2012 and slots and tables games will double in the 100,000 square foot permanent casino. I love the place, hope you love it too!
Fail/ Pass it on by.
Customer Service/ Players Club, Terrible, long long lines for cheap assed freebies. Been there twice after getting "tempting" offers in the mail. Will never bother to go on days like that again. Same thing on days of "big' promotions like drawing for money /cars. Slot machines are way way too stingy.
Not a table game player so have no thoughts on that.
Hotel not yet open.
Only food I have tried is the sandwich place up front. Whether the sandwich is hot or cold, depends on how busy they are. The last time, only one gal working, was very busy, the sandwich was actually cold in the middle and bread was very chewy. Only good thing, I used my points from player card to pay for the things.
Free play comes with so many strings ie, days and hours, limits, that we don't bother even reading the offers any more. Its a two hour round trip from here, and hubby can't go at all during the week, which seems to be when most of those offers were good for.
Not bad in small doses
I've never been much of a casino person, however when Kansas Star opened I thought I'd check it out.
When they first opened, I was going a few times a week. Generally spending no more than $40 per visit. They suffered what I would assume would be expected pains of opening a much anticipated attraction for the area. During peak times it was very crowded. . . but off peak times were very bearable. Drinks were way overpriced, but are more reasonable now).
I've started going much less. Deciding to instead make the trek down to First Council or Native Lights.
Slots - Kansas Star changes slots fairly often. Which may or may not be a good thing. Personally, I get attached to certain games and want to be able to play them when I go. Unfortunately, for them and me, they've gotten rid of all but one of the games that I enjoy. I miss the Hangover and Diamond Peak machines. I've not had any real luck since the casino opened. My biggest payout at one machine was just over $100.00. That happened only once. Generally, if I go in with $40.00, I'm out of money within 30 mins.
From what I've experienced lately, machines at First Council and Native Lights tend to pay out better than slots at Kansas Star. Not to mention that Native Lights has the $1.00 Hangover machine and a machine called Red Hot Fusion, which I also love. All of that being said, I don't plan many trips back to Kansas Star.
Table Games - The only table game I've played is Roulette. I played during the first couple of months after they opened. But quickly got turned off by the lack of manners that players displayed while playing. Additionally, it seemed that each dealer played by a different set of rules. The basics of the game were the same for all, but some of the nuances were applied differently. In my last few visits, the Roulette table doesn't seem to be nearly as busy as it used to be. Additionally they've added 2 more tables that are open during peak hours. So maybe if I do go back to Kansas Star I'll play Roulette instead of slots.
Food & Drinks - The food is actually pretty good and reasonably priced. I've tried their burgers, dogs and pizza and was pleased with all of my meals. Free soda is standard in this area but I do wish the cups were just a little bigger. Drink prices were initially very high, but they have brought them down to a more reasonable price. At $3.00 for a bottle of domestic beer they are more in line with what bars and restaurants sell them at. However, both First Council and Native Light offer $1.50 domestic draws. Which is yet another reason I've decided to spend my money further south.
In short. . . if you live in Wichita and you want to entertain yourself for an hour or two. Kansas Star will work. But if you're looking to make an evening or day of it? Make the trip further south to First Council or Native Lights.
Kansas Star Casino
I went to Kansas Star Casino for the first time and sat down and every machine I sat at I won!! In a matter of 20 minutes I won over 400 dollars! I will go there again!
Don't bother if you're a slotter
I have gambled from Oklahoma, to Deadwood, to Cripple Creek to Vegas and never lost as quickly and as much as at this casino. My fourth and last trip was just yesterday. Like other review, dropped big bucks into a machine with zero payout. The place was packed and after speaking with a lady in the seat next to me, said on weekends, you have to wait for a machine to open. Seriously? I will never go in there again. Tightest slot machines , ever!
I spent a few years playing in Northern Oklahoma, and sure, I had some dry stints where I wasn't winning, but I can say I won $1,000 and under A LOT, and I've won at least 10 jackpots at them. I've won nothing over $200 at Kansas Star Casino and must have blown $2000 or more. Most likely more. The Kansas Star Casino is the very thing that can either turn a problem gambler into a broke addict, or just get the gambler to quit all together.
Tight slots, but you keep coming back
For a non-indian state run casino, the slots here are VERY tight. I've dropped $900 into one machine, betting max, and it never paid out. The rewards are spread out over the entire month; they want you to come 3 times a week for $10-$20 of free play a day. When they have a promotion going on, don't even think about winning on slots. They can tighten the machines with just a push of a button. The slot games are old; they claim they have "new" machines, but it actually means that the machines are only new to the casino. Other casinos have those same games for years. This casino also lacks variation in slot games. If you are strictly a slot player, don't come here.
There are a lot of table games. They are always packed and it is hard to get a seat.
Customer service is a nightmare. One time, I was playing a slot machine which is about to hit the major progressive. I had been playing on it for 8 hours. Then a security guard came up and told everyone to cash out because they are closing that section of the casino. I told him about my situation, and asked if he can hold my machine. This is exactly what he said "Sorry, you are SOL. First come first serve. If you don't like it, you can take it up with the state." I was shocked at what I heard. I also asked the floor manager and machine operator if they can hold my machine. They said the same thing "No, first come first serve." And why do they keep asking to see my ID at the door?! I am balding and look nowhere near 21.
Although I dislike this casino, I kept going back just because of the "free stuff" they give away. But it always seem like they "ran out" of stock and want you to come back in the future to claim it when they get it back in stock. This is just another ploy to get slot players to go there 3 times a week and lose their pants to the casino.
At the time of this review, the hotel has not been built yet.
The only good thing I can say about this casino: No Ante, self-serve soft drinks, and good food for fair prices.
