MSS is best downtown

Stayed here the last 3 years my wife and I come to Las Vegas about five times a year and have never had a bad experience here. From the hotel desk staff to housekeeping they really go out of the way to take care of you and for this i will always stay here. The atmosphere in the casino is calm and fun not loud like the strip. Have eaten at both places very good and service is great. Have made a friend at the valet parking he always parks my car in a safe place good weather or bad. (THANKS TOM) Just got back from a great trip last week March 4-8 everybody was great had a blast and have already booked a trip for May 7-11 cant wait its home away from home thanks MSS

Nice Decor and Delicious Food

I happen to be paralyzed and in a wheelchair, but fly out several times a year I fly out to Vegas and always enjoy checking out the various resorts -- especially the Downtown properties.

Main Street Station is one of the Boyd Gaming Properties (includes California Club, the Fremont and Orleans among others). It is very close to Fremont Street -- just a block or two from the renovated Plaza Hotel. And it has a nice enclosed and elevated walkway connecting to its sister California Club which is directly across Ogden Street from the Vegas Club.

The main reasons we visit Main Street Station are for the favorable odds on the Craps table and a terrific buffet that always pleases everyone in our group. There is also an onsite micro-brewery with decent pub grub.

We also like the unique decor and design of the Main Street Station. And when we have rented a car, their rental car office near the lobby seemed to offer the best deals of any of the downtown car rentals.

Boyd Gaming sends out a lot of nice deals and promotions for their properties so it well worth joining the Player's Club.

best buffet ever!

Main Street Station is an awesome hotel and casino. We prefer to stay downtown and it is just a block away from the fremont street experience. Their casino is so beautiful and big! The hotel rooms are spacious, clean and very nice. The price is awesome, and the best thing is the buffet. I cannot say enough about this buffet, it is the best I have ever been to in Vegas.

beautiful place!

Beautiful, good sized casino, lots of antiques, chandaliers and nice things to look at. Nice rooms, ask for a room opposite side of railroad yard. Just a block from the Fremont Street Experience. Best buffet in the Downtown area, a few years ago this buffet was voted #1 in Vegas. Good gambling, great staff.

A nice locals hangout

Ventured down to this casino one day, really enjoyed the "local" atmosphere that this place puts off... Seems to be out of the tourist path, so it gives you a better sensation of "real vegas" than a lot of the other places.

A Solid Downtown Casino

If you like downtown this is one of the better choices for a place to stay and/or hang out. I seldom do buffets in Vegas but we were there one day and it was about time to eat. I saw STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE on their buffet and to me that's something I can't resist so we tried it. Their buffet was very good all the way around! This is the place that has a part of the Berlin wall in their mens' bathroom and I thought that was sort of cool (strange too).

We didn't stay at the hotel but I'm sure it's fine, like all the other Boyd property Casinos. Reasonably clean and average.

The Gem of Downtown Vegas

My favorite place on Fremont- It may not have all the history of Binion's or the Nugget but its lure is the 777 Brew Pub and smallness of this large space. The craps tables are often crowded with a sprinkling of locals and out of towners fresh from their arrival on Aloha Airlines. I find it always very tidy and the staff very friendly. The ornateness of the entire is a sign of attention to detail as both a visitor and a player. A must stop on any trip!

Main Street is the best

Main Street Station is one of the best casinos downtown Vegas. It has a homey atmosphere, and whole Victorian theme makes you feel at ease. They have great JOB and lots of VP throughout the casino and by the bar. Their restaurant, 777 Brew Pub is fabulous pub food. The buffet is a great value as well, and you can usually find coupons online for a 2/1 as well. The Berlin Wall is a blast, and their lobby is very pretty. I love, love, love this place.

Take a Whiz on the Berlin Wall!

This is one of the best places to visit in the downtown/Fremont Street area. Despite the name, it is not part of the Station Casinos family, I believe it's part of Boyd Gaming if I'm not mistaken.

Anyway, this place is great place to spend the afternoon before enjoying the Fremont Street Experience. You can stroll around and check out all the antiques they have on display, play some full pay video poker, have lunch at one of the best buffets in Vegas, and take a leak on the Berlin Wall afterwards. No, that's not a typo. In the men's restroom just outside the buffet, the urinals have pieces of the Berlin Wall in them.

The staff here is great and always makes you feel welcome. If you're in the downtown area, Main Street Station is a must visit.

VP players should visit

Main Street Station is an excellent play for Video Poker Players. They have a good selection of games and when you hit a natural 4 of a kind, you get a scratch card to try to add to your winnings. Their buffet is good and reasonably priced and 2 for 1 coupons are easy to find online.

Great food gambling and antiques

We all have our favorite dishes which we look forward to on any journey to a place we know. In Vegas one of mine is a combination I create at the Main Street Station buffet. From the Southern food section I take a few scoops of collard greens. These are not those washed out tasteless chopped greens served in many in expensive buffets, even in the South. These are well cooked and seasoned with a bit of pork.
Then I head to the far back and the Hawaiian food section and put a few scoops of Kalua pulled pork on the greens. This too is well done and as good as what I ate in Hawaii.
Finally, I coat the top with those Chinese crispy noodles and add soy sauce to taste. If I only eat this, I feel I have gotten a good buffet bargain.
Of course, I don’t only eat that. I like many of the offerings. And I leave room for iced cream because they have more toppings than most places, including crumbled Butterfinger pieces. Sometimes they even have an unusual flavor of soft iced cream.
Breakfast is very good as well. The egg station chef there is well known as an entertaining fellow, full of good humor and perfect banter to wake us up and bring in the day. He will cook whatever you like. Remember that you don’t have to get an omelet. I order eggs over easy. And generally there are some cooked mushrooms and onions nearby. I top the eggs with that. i like runny yokes.
Also, in the morning, they serve sticky buns. I cut one in half as they are huge. And very good.
The ambiance of the place is my favorite in all of Vegas. Here are huge ceilings, lots of decorative turn of the century shapes and glass. It feels comfortable to be there. Sometimes I bring a notebook and write a while over tea.
The Triple 7 Brewpub gets great reviews, and it is on my list for a visit; however, I think the buffet draws me away from that possibility.
I don’t miss their microbrews, however. My favorite, Black Chip Porter is available as a comped drink at the Boars Head Bar while playing 9/6 JOB in quarters. That is one of the best deals in Vegas, especially since any quad or better wins a scratch card as well that generally brings $2 or $5 but might bring much more than that on rate occasions. You do have to call the bartender, or if you are on the floor, call the change person, so someone can verify your quad of better and give you the card.
If you like antiques, you can get a pamphlet at the check in counter that will detail what is in this casino and define a walking tour. There is plenty of rich wood furniture, and I remember a chandelier from the Paris' Figaro Opera House.

My favorite is the winged figure holding the clock. Time flies. However, most people talk and remember the urinal that is set in a real piece of the Berlin Wall. There are photographs showing the wall too. Men have easy access to this rest room right near the buffet, but women often go in to see it, if no men are there. A security guard can help you do that, but you have to be patient. If you do photograph the urinal be certain no one is in the stalls. It is understandably disconcerting to a guy sitting in a stall when he detects a flash from a camera that lights up the bathroom. On my list for next trip is an antique pool table I read about.
The rooms at Main Street Station are favorites. I like them very much. But the train or traffic noise bothers my light sleep as do the slats in the windows which cannot block out all light for afternoon naps. So I avoid them.
There is no pool, but you can use the very, very, very small and very, very, very cold pool at the California if you stay at Main Street Station. You have to stop at the California desk and get a key to open the pool room. Because it is so cold, I have usually found it deserted and had room to swim. It is quite high up as well and the views are not spectacular, but can be interesting. Get out of there if you see lightning.

Parking is either free (most of the time) or if there is a guard you might have to pay $3 and get your receipt validated in the casino. Rarely is there a firm charge, only if there are events that fill up downtown parking.

Wifi is available in the area near the Player’s Club, but at busy times, someone asks to see a room key and if you are not staying there, you have to give up your spot.

Outside the casino on the way to the new Plaza are a few antique train cars that were used by Calamity Jane and by Teddy Roosevelt. You can look in the windows and see how the old cars were set up and decorated, even how the dining car looked. As well as the 9/6 JOB at the bar, there is 10/7 DB on the floor. That is my favorite game.

Main Street Station is not connected to other casinos with Station in their name. It is connected to the B Connected casinos, so points earned at Gold Coast, Orleans, Sam’s Town, Suncoast among others in that group can buy a buffet. However, the best buffet deal is this little known Promotion. The first day you arrive to play, walk to the Player’s Club, tell them you just arrived and you hope the promotion of getting a free buffet after running through $1,000 or so on your first day is still available. If it is, they will tell you the exact points needed, and you can go play to that point and get a buffet with no points deducted. I think this can happen once every three months on your first visit.

In my experience they have been both liberal and tight in offering room comps. I get easier comps playing the 10/7 at Four Queens, so lately I invest my real money there. However, every visit I play for a Black Chip Porter or two and most visits I get the initial free buffet. The dinner buffet takes a bit more play than the others, but it is good even on the days when the buffet price is higher because it is seafood or steak night.

If you don’t want to walk outside from the Plaza to Main Street Station, you can go into Binion's, walk to the back, go across the street and enter the California. From there is a bridge that goes over the street and directly into Main Street Station. This is good for folks who worry about being on a side road off Fremont (although this walk is perfectly safe) or in really hot weather to maximize air conditioning.

Main Street Station is a little out of the way, but it is a great visit.

Favorite place to stay downtown

We have stayed here the last 3 times we visited Vegas. Check-in was fast. Buffet is excellent. Rooms above-average for downtown. Good selection of slots, with plenty of video poker. You get an instant-cash scratch off for 4-of-a-kind on video poker which we use for drink tip money. The microbrews are really pretty good. There was a bartender who recognized us from our previous visit months earlier, remembered where we were from and my wife's name which was pretty neat. We're just moderate gamblers, but we have received free room and food offers. We plan on staying here again on our next Vegas trip.

Super Stay at Main Street

We enjoyed our stay at Main Street. We received excellent service. My husband has recently been confined to a wheelchair and we needed a handicapped room. We took our daughter along to help us. We were so fortunate that they had just what we needed.

One thing that was a little inconvenient was that the shower flooded and the water came out almost to the door. I had to use a lot of towels to dry the floor so there were no accidents. Might be feasible to install the shower where you walk in, sit down and closed the door.

Since there are so many elderly I would like to suggest that they get a family or handicapped bathroom. I would have had to go into the men's room with my husband. Sometimes there is not enough time to get up to the room.

Also, moving from Main Street to the Cal with the wheelchair was a challenge. I would not have been able to push the wheelchair up the ramp. Downhill is not bad, but the uphill is too steep. Luckily, I had my daughter to help me. Too bad their elevator does not go up all the way to the overpass.

Everyone at Main Street was super helpful and very accommodating.

We were very happy with the connecting room and we were completely satisfied with the arrangements and early check in.

Thank you very much.

This is our favorite place to stay downtown. It has great value, inexpensive gambling, good food - other than no coffee shop onsite requires one to go to California (connected by bridge), to Freemont St, or McDonald's.

Room was nice other than the bathroom was small and needed updating. Service at tables was great, except for an hour-and-a-half wait on Friday night, when it appears that at shift change they must of had a waitress not show up.

Good Place to Play Video Poker

I always visit Main Street Station every time I visit Las Vegas.

They have a good selection of video poker games - 9/6 Jacks, 10/7 Double Bonus and 8/5 Bonus - in a variety of denominations. They also have some 25-cent Not So Ugly Deuces? games.

Additionally, any time you get a four-of-a-kind you are given a scratch off card for cash. It's almost always $2, but there are some higher amounts you can win.

The comps are pretty good and they are generous with mailed offers. They keep sending me offers for a free two or three night stay with a $25 food credit and double points. My play wasn't that heavy and that's why I think they are fairly generous with their offers.

I still haven't stayed there yet, but I'm sure I will. I have heard that you want to avoid staying on the side near the railroad tracks because it can get pretty noisy.

They also have free wireless internet service in the lobby. Sometimes I bring my laptop to check my email there in the morning and then go play some video poker.

I have tried the buffet which is very good and they also have an on-site brewery restaurant which is also good.

Easy comps and offers

Just a couple of thousand coin-in gets you on their radar for room offers. You might even get a buffet for that as well.

Great Hotel and Restaurants

Main Street is a great place to stay. Valet parking takes five minutes instead of 20. The Triple 7 Brewery has generous portions of good food.

The walkway to the California makes it easy to get to Fremont without fighting traffic.
