New York-New York Hotel & Casino

We walked over to the New York-New York Hotel & Casino when we stayed at the Tropicana Casino recently. There is a pedestrian walkway that goes over the streets at the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. so you can walk from the Tropicana Casino to the MGM Casino to the New York New York Casino to the Excalibur Casino back to the Tropicana Casino.
When we entered the New York-New York Hotel & Casino we stopped at a Starbucks and was able to use our Starbucks gift card to pay for our coffee. All the casinos at this corner are always very crowded.

Definitely a "New York" Feel

New York, New York is a cool place. It really does have a New York feel too.

I can start with the good...

I had a Broadway Deluxe room, on a higher floor. The room had everything you would need, a little on the small side, but hey, so are the rooms in New York. There was what I thought was a small fridge in the bathroom, but it was a freezer and froze my beer. That's okay when it's triple digits outside as it thawed quickly... We were in the Empire State building, which was close to the gaming floor and pool and check-in desk. There are a lot of food options here. Gonzalez y Gonzalez is really good. My wife had a Martini with our coupon. According to her, it was not the best, but it also was not the worst. There is a pizza joint in here that is really cool in the evening. You can get a slice of pizza and a beer for about $6. It has an outside feel in all their shops and restaurants. The Nine Fine Irishmen is a great place, and has some of the greatest atmosphere of any bar I have been in.

The gaming floor is big and has every slot machine that every other place has on the Strip. Their Video Poker does not have the best pay tables unless you play higher limits. Their tables have a higher limits, next door was better at Monte Carlo.

Now the "not so good" part of my review...

The majority of the staff here are like a lot of New Yorkers, rude... Sorry, if I offend someone, but you know how it is. A few bad apples ruin it for the whole bunch. There was a bartender who was totally obnoxious when I asked for a drink when I was playing VP and he tried to charge me! My wife was beside me getting served for free? Go figure...

The staff at the front desk seemed less than enthused with assisting us. The wait staff on the gaming floor was either super quick or painfully slow. I guess it depends where you were sitting. After getting one drink and tipping $5, it was over an hour for her to return. I had to send my wife out to find someone. At least when she returned, she brought me two beers and my wife a LARGE, strong rum and coke. But, there was no apology and she actually asked for a tip... I cashed out and left the property after that.

But, all in all, I think I would stay here again, as I know what to expect. I would definitely stay here if there were no resort fees.

CM

Start Spreading The News- NEW YORK, NEW YORK

I absolutely love the theme of this Las Vegas casino/hotel and wish more hotels would theme themselves like this. The inside is like walking through NYC, and the gaming is somewhat decent here as well.

I rode the coaster here when it first opened (then called Manhattan Express) and it was neat how it went inside and outside of the property. I have not personally stayed at the hotel itself, but I've had friends stay there and they told me it was one of the best stays they've had on the strip.

Good place to stay

Stayed here in 2003. Very large and clean rooms. Elevators are hard to figure out. Forget about it if you've had anything to drink. Ask for help to find your room. Expect to walk a mile.

Tables were too crowded and limits too high. Walk across the street to play. Slots are tight.

Food was good and drinks are okay.

The kids stuff is for the older children. Age 12 and up. Roller coaster was high priced, but worth it.

I'd stay somewhere else, but visit for the teen entertainment.

A taste of Old New York

New York , New York is one of the mega casinos on the strip. It has easy access from I-15 and always has ample self parking available.

Their massive swimming pools are mobbed during the summer and the Coney Island style arcade has enough games to keep a child busy for hours. Their roller coaster is fast and furious and a must for coaster lovers.

The casino offers a wide variety of games with a massive floor plan of slot machines (including a nice variety of video poker).

Their food area offers many different NY style resturants and the ESPN Zone is a magent for the teens. New York, New York also provides relatively easy walking access to MGM, Excalibur & Tropicana with their overhead pedestrian walk-ways ( no need to fight the traffic on Las Vegas/Flamingo Blvd intersection )
