I read a lot of bad reviews on here for it being a tight casino. Well I have won a little and lost a little it does not make it bad just because you do not win. If you are going to go to a casino and think you are going to win every time well ya better think again because it will never happen. I think this is a great place. I can get out of town and have some fun win or lose. I still enjoy it. It is up to you how much you want to put in the slots. If they are not paying, then stop playing. There is no one behind you making you play. You just have to know when to stop. No one's fault but your own if you go home broke. I love this please just wish I could get there more times a year. They have the best burgers around I buy extra and take them home and freeze them. I think It is a fun please. Hope to go back there real soon.
THIS IS A MUST READ REVIEW !
This casino and ALL other casinos have the ability to control the slot machines from the back room. It is no wonder why you can never win. The best thing to do is just do not go back. Let them figure out where they are going to get the money to pay the bills. Show the casino that YOU can control the slot machines even better than they can. NOTHING going in to the slot machines = NOTHING coming out. They have ruined this business so bad by screwing over regular customers. I know ALOT of people that were regular customers here that will never go back. Simply because you can NEVER win anything. Yes, I know it is supposed to be gambling but, COME ON! The slot machines operate on a Linux operating system which is controlled by a central computer in the back room. They can change the payout on one or all of the slot machines in a matter of seconds with the click of a mouse. In fact, here is a link to a New York Times article for all of those non believers. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/04/12/technology/12casino.html?pagewanted=all Just copy and paste that link in to your google search bar and you will find the article. About the ONLY good things about this casino is the food and meeting good friends there to visit . IF you gamble, put in a $20.00 dollar bill and when it is gone leave. NEVER have I ever saw ANY business treat their regular customers like pure CRAP. And you think people are going to continue to return ? WAKE UP ! It is apparent that people are getting tired of this place. The people working in check cashing are sitting playing games and reading books because they have no customers to wait on. They used to be so busy in the check cashing area that they always had a line of people. And in the so called " High Stakes Room" it is so quiet that you could hear a sparrow fart. Most of the employees are great people here. It is the management that is in need of a major overhaul. Until that happens , I am never going back here. All it is here is a bunch of thieves preying on senior citizens and ripping off their money. Consider what I have stated in this review before you ever visit this casino or any other casino in the United States. They have had the technology to control the slot machines from the back room since 2006 and are not bashful about doing so. There you have all been schooled ! Use your education wisely !

Went on a sunday night in Feb 2012. World's smallest buffet! Played for an hour got real small payback. Got bored, few machines, lots of people. You would think with all the oil people and money around they could do way better.
This is a great place to have fun! I live in georgia and try to come to this casino at least once a month!!!
Tight machines......tight machines.............did I say tight? Please.........if you want to win, don't go here. Too much road construction! Plus they are trying to pay for their new grocery store which I've heard is a flop too. $3 million? Yeah they give away money....to the same people every time. What a joke!!! I say no....no...no to this casino.
Ya know, I really do like this place, but the chances of winning here are not good.
The staff is friendly if you are also friendly. I mean really........ I wouldn't be delighted with
an ornery or unfriendly customer either.
Ohh! The omelets are delicious at the Buffet. Get the super omelet, yum so good.
Playing penny slots really are not the way to win. A good time killer yet fun.
The rooms are nice and reasonably priced, and the kids will love the pool.
Sure I didn't win, but ehh guess it was still fun.
Oh, there are a huge variety of slots. Anything from video Lucille Ball and the Munsters to
the old style slot. Remember to sign up for the Player Club Card. You will save $ on rooms and food.
Have been going to spirit lake casino since it opened. It use to be a good place where you could win sometimes. Was just there again tonight. I actually got into a bonus round on a machine. I got 72 free spins at a buck an a quarter. I ended up with 41 bucks. Not good if you do the math. Most of the time my wife and I just donate and go home. I hear some people actually win there, but then I don't know how much they spend. If you're looking for a good place to go an have fun, I doubt this is the place. Most folks leave pissed!! need I say more?? Oh, and my wife has written the attorney general about the machines being so tight, but never heard a word back.I guess the gaming commission is busy doing other stuff!
Top Casino's in north dakota!!!
Let's do this honestly and i will be able to write a great review!! First off .. every review i have seen here on every casino is the same ol same ol! every person that writes a review only writes negative comments because of their experiences!! i will write an honest to god review! starting from the top!
THE SLOTS! the machines here are up to par with many casinos, they have a variety of slots that are familiar with most of the casinos out there .. so it would be easy to play your favorite machine! sometimes they have up to 3-4 of the same slot machine! so you would be comfortable just jumping in!! the payouts are fair! provided you play at the right time!! i'm one of those people who don't like crowded casinos having to fight for a spot to play a machine is not my idea of fun!
if you would like to win at playing slots there are some things to consider such as when to play them! i find that winning the most out of these machines would be the time of day ... i find that playing on the low peak times such as between 2am- 11am is the best time because there is no one there and you can quickly cycle thru and find the best machines!
the payouts are the same as any casino! if you ever wonder why you don't get paid out so much it's probably because you went to that casino on peak hours when there have been 10 people playing that machine at 7pm on a saturday and the jackpot has already been paid out!
i find that no matter what machine you're playing it's always best to play a machine that has been sitting dormant for hours! that is just with my experiences!
TABLE GAMES as with most casinos! you would have to just sign up for the players club because it is worth the coupons and free comps they give you... as with any casino they give you paybacks of what you spent in rooms, food and entertainment!
i have been a very satisfied customer several months ago i walked in and and played the blackjack table games! I believe i played from 11am all the way till close... i was very tired at the end, but i managed to win what i lost of around $1,100 but it was fun... the points i earned quickly paid me a free meal and and an extra night free .. and unknown to me i also earned comp dollars that i was allowed to spend on food, lodging and even their boat and cabin rentals! since this casino is located on a lake they have these great amenities!!!
the rooms are hit or miss! i say this because every room has been updated with a fridge, microwave, and a flat-screen i believe 37" tv.. the rooms particularly my favorite room #331 has the updated colors of light beige but no one bothered to clean up the mess on the walls.. there are some handprints on the walls, but i think it makes it more unique! it has a walkout balcony so you can see the pool and the water park right outside your room! the moving water is rather loud .. so you might want to shut the door before bed time!
speaking of water park.. for the kids they do have a waterslide and whirlpool that is open everyday from 11am to 8pm.. the kids will love it .. you can rent some water toys like an alligator for $5... and they do have a lifeguard on duty!
The staff here are friendly ... they make you feel right at home... from the table game dealers to the pit bosses and your vip concierge! they learn your name quick and offer you comps if you meet that certain criteria!!
Every casino that i go to .. i make sure to spend the most i can out of my dollar.. at times i spend thousands of dollars!! but the returns are great... here at spirit lake they have daily promotions and monthly prize giveaways where you can win thousands of dollars!! usually they give out an average of around 20-30k of prizes each month..
if you are a high roller, like i am, they automatically enter you into drawings and remind you to come to the casino at that time so you can have your chance to win!!
This Casino has a great gaming atmosphere .. its cleanliness is up to par ... the lighting is wonderful on the gaming floor!
i have spent thousands of dollars here, but i have also donated it back as soon as i won it... but for goodness sake it was fun.. the last time i was here i won and lost and spent over 7k and stayed a total of 9 days! because i was having soo much fun!! if i was to give this place a rating from 1-10 it is a solid 9!!!
to sum everything up!! the food is great!! some days are better than the next .. wednesday is sea food night and you can go king crab crazy for $16 all you can eat! if it's too crazy down there there is a well hidden restaurant on the 4th floor in the back of the casino that has a great vista(VIEW) of the whole devils lake! they have a fresh lobster tank that you can choose lobster from the sizes and they will cook it for you the avg price on the lobster goes from 30 all the way up to i believe 130 dollars!!
The casino is a dry casino so that being said .. you don't run into that problem of blowing all your money at once and can't use the excuse of "i was under the influence"!
before you leave and after you're done playing make sure to swipe your card at customer service and get up to $50 in bounce back .. (which is good for up to 2 weeks) so the next time you come they will give you 50 bucks in either slot machine or table games... you do have to earn points but earning points here is fast and easy... 500 pts i believe is 15 dollars. 1,200 pts is $35 and for 1,500 pts its $50 bounce back!!
well that is my honest opinion on spirit lake in north dakota.. check out my other reviews on DIAMOND JIM in IOWA.. and SEVEN CLANS THIEF RIVER FALLS , MN...
and one last thing ... DO NOT STAY on the 4TH floor!! take my word for it!! i'm prettty sure there is a reason its called DEVILS LAKE!! it's not because it's dirty... let's just say i'm superstitious... and will never stay on the 4th floor ever again!!!
Can't win anything
Slot machines are tight! Very tight! If you expect to win something, don't go here.
Customer service is so so. Most of the time it's horrible. Don't waste your money or your time. Go somewhere else.
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY !!!!
This place controls the slot machines from a central computer in the back, do not go and expect to win. Go to shooting star casino instead it is WAY better.
Good casino and hotel. Evening Staff a little stiff, but warmed up the following day.
