NEVER come out a winner
I've been to EQC several times and have NEVER come out a winner. I play slots - don't even think they HAVE table games at this location.
There's a small non-smoking section but the majority is smoking. The machines are only OK. Many are showing signs of getting quite tired, and almost all are unbelievably tight.
Service is middling. The cocktail waitresses are mostly older, unattractive and many are surly.
Save yourself the money and the grief; STAY AWAY!
Don't play here
Emerald Queen Hotel and 1-5 are both great places to lose money, especially in slots. Some casinos advertise their jackpot winners, the few times I've seen people win big at the Emerald, they acted somewhat embarrassed that such a thing could happen.
I find the machines to play erratic, usually offering no more than a 20% upswing before a long slide to zero. I have played at all different times of the week, with little change. On top of that, the machines are crowded into dark labyrinths, especially at the Hotel.
The rooms are about at par with any Best Western. I do give high marks to the comp system at the Hotel--if you are willing to be 'watched' by the huge security staff to make sure you are always playing (i.e. being properly sheared).
If you are willing to play slots for two hours, they will give you a 20.00 certificate good for their excellent deli, or the buffet--which is pretty good as well. Just plan on losing about 40.00 an hour at quarter bets for that 'generous' comp. The only way I would play the slots now would be to take a friend, play penny bets, smoke indoors while drinking free pop, and heading up to the Tatoosh Grill on the third floor after two hours. As far as slots, I enjoy the play much more at the Clearwater an hour away.
Not so great
While upgrading they completely did away with the non-smoking room. It was just a small room with crappy machines, but at least they showed some respect for non-smokers. They have been without a non-smoking area for a couple of months, but hope to have the new non-smoking area done by New Year's.
Customer service is pretty lousy at times. The staff will spy on you. Very creepy. My partner and I joined the Slot Club. We shared a machine and were told we could not do that and get the comps. I said it isn't about the number of machines we play, it is about the money we spend. We would spend the same amount whether sharing a machine or not. My partner now refuses to go as the staff actually followed us to see if we were sharing a machine. This from a casino that let people play more than one machine when no other machines were available (Cleopatra). They do not respect their customers and they especially do not respect non-smokers.
They used to have great burgers and a wonderful steak and eggs breakfast. Then they turned the restaurant into a "5 Star" one. Yep, overlooking I-5. Since then, no more burgers or steak and eggs. And this location includes a hotel. Sheesh.
We ate at the Tatoosh Grill early morning Sun, Dec 27, 2009. The food was horrible. When we were done, the waitress took three plates full of food off the table and did not ask if our food if anything was wrong.
I ordered the chicken and broccoli. It tasted like the chicken had cream of chicken soup or some type of gravy on it. Horrible. Not like any chicken and broccoli I've ever tasted. The potstickers were wonderful though. We will not eat at that restaurant again.
We much prefer the Muckleshoot. They built a building for their non-smoking customers and recently joined it to the main building and added more machines. Though even when in the general area of the Muckleshoot, the cigarette smoke is not bad. The Muckleshoots just seem to take more time planning than the Puyallups. Perhaps the Puyallups should have focused on just one facility.
yuck
I did not have a very long stay at this casino. We stopped in, played for about 1/2 an hour and got out. The smoke was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Both my wife and I would not come back ever for that reason alone.
