northstar has taken a dive for the worst lately

i have been gaming often at northstar mohican casino since my arrival in wisconsin from new jersey in 2008. within the past few months(mid-to late 2010 starting) i must say that northstar has taken a serious dive towards being on the worst list of gaming establishments. true the people are nice there (they are starting to become rude and obnoxious though, with the exception of the casino staff i know that remained and have not quit due to mistreatment or the sort). the promos are junk. its extremely aggravating to see a neighbor receive 15 a week in freeplays PLUS a free hotel stay for NOT gaming when i myself have spent OVER 450 DOLLARS IN NOVEMBER. foolishly yes but it's my mistake. bringing up another trick northstar has pulled. PUTTING WAGER MONEY (giftcards you buy with cash) ON YOUR PLAYERS CARD AS A PROMO. why would a casino payout when the system thinks it's free money from the casino? this implement is the stupidest thing they could have done. and no one listens to a word you say. and i have not moved up from a sapphire since i got my card initially. i used to play hard and hit decently at northstar but recently i have threatened to take my business elsewhere and have done so. i only bring like 20 dollars with me when i do go. and the list of "loosened" machines is a revenue grabber when i did win something it was indeed the machine next to it that i won on. this establishment does hit but not that often at least not for local frequents. it's ALWAYS some out of towner that hits. highly unfair.

Are you kidding me???

Dropped truckloads of money over the last 5 years or so. haven't gone much lately. Live near Milwaukee so driving there is 2.5 hours each way. Got a comp in the mail for free play, $25 bucks worth whoopee. Called the star club to ask if the $25 was still good, and their only answer was, "we cannot give that information out over the phone, you have to come in to the star club." Yeah like I am going to drive 2 plus hours to verify that. Taking my hard earned cash elsewhere. Probably Oneida,at least that way it is a shorter trip.

Really the nicest looking casino in WI. but.......

Since the Mohican North Star remodeled and expanded, they are in my opinion the nicest casino in central WI by a wide margin. However, a fancy, up to date, and attractive casino doesn't mean that you will win anything, and that is certainly true at this place. Seems like they are trying to pay for the improvements in a very short time by screwing the machines down so they don't pay back anything.
I visited this casino along with my wife and another couple approx. a month ago and spent a good 4 hours there, and no one won anything. That is not the first time I walked out of this place with absolutely not one winning pot.
The place looks really nice, and the air is well circulated so no smoke smell is around unless you are sitting right next to a smoker. There are lots of machine's of all kinds so there should be no problem finding one that you like, but beware, none of them pay anything.
There is a nice center bar in the casino and the drink prices are reasonable and the bartenders are friendly. They have improved the food service and the snack bar located just off the casino floor has a decent variety of food along with a larger dining room located in a different area..
I only live about 50 miles from the casino but there are no good roads to get from where I live to the casino, so it takes at least 2+ hours to drive there which is really annoying and a big detriment to going there. In addition, I would never drive to or from the place at night because of the deer danger. There usually is one hiding behind every tree.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

This is one of the worst casinos we have been to. The staff was very unfriendly. Whatever you do, do not ask anyone for directions--we did and we ended up on a gravel road with lots of pot holes and deers on it and we ended up going ten miles out of our way. This casino really needs to take a course on customer service because it is the worst I have ever seen. Good luck if you plan on visiting this place. It is BAD.

Favorite Casino in WI

Love this Casino.
It's clean and has happy to help you employees! The food is great and so is the atmosphere.
It can get smokey, but they must have a very good ventillation system because I never smell like smoke when I leave.
They send us great coupons for even gas!! Thank you, we will keep coming back.

Mohican

I think Mohican deserves a break. And here is why. They actually give you a chance to win. I have been around to most casinos in Wisconsin. All of them have some slots that are somewhat tight.

I am going to focus on slot machines here because table games are not controlled by a random number generator set by the casino. I would say that the majority of Mohican's nickel slots allow you to bet in upwards of $25 a pull. And that is a good thing. Why? Most dollar slots have only 1- 6 payout lines. But with their nickel slots it can be in upwards of 40-100 different winning combinations which result in a greater likelihood that you will hit something. Now Penny, dime, quarter, and dollar slots have their place too.

If you have ever been to any of the other casinos in Wisconsin like Mole Lake or Carter the most you can bet on any of their penny or nickel machines is around $4. The bottom line here is that the other casinos have a pretty tight lid on what they payout whereas for someone who has the bankroll, you COULD realistically walk out of Mohican, on a good day a couple grand ahead.

It is like the old saying, "you have to spend money to make money." But remember the casinos are counting on you to lose your head, so do not blow the mortgage payment. They also have a $500 limit on their blackjack tables whereas 90% of all the other casinos in WI have a $200 limit. It also looks like they are building a hotel to complement the casino which will be a great addition. I gave the players club a 3 because unless you are spending thousands of dollars, it probably will not add up too quickly. Their shoot for the stars program online sometimes gives out free play.

The non-smoking area is too small. The area on the floor had too much heat in some spots and too much cold in others. When the front door is open we could feel the cold on the floor.

The slots were very cold in any kind of payment. The customers in general were upset. Who came up with those billboards? Don't stick out and match the skyline and are very blah, it needs lots of work go back to the old ways and it will work....

Mohican switches to Certegy for Check Writing Bewa

I am seething at Mohican's new move. Their old check writing system was pretty good. You could go to the check cashing window and write a check after proving you had the funds in your checking account. It was a pretty good system. Never ran into a problem and could write checks for $400-$500.

Now Mohican switched to Certegy payment services, a company used by many major retailers including Walmart and Godaddy.com. Certegy guarantees checks written by patrons allowing casinos like Mohican and Walmart to accept less risk.

If you write a check at a company that uses Certegy and it bounces, Certegy will come after you, ruin your credit report, and make your life a living hell. So if you have ever bounced a check and had to deal with Certegy do not expect to get any credit at Mohican.

Because I was on Certegy's blacklist I was only able to write a check for $100. All because I let a $5 domain name expire bought from Godaddy.com. Certegy came after me for the $5 domain name plus a $30 return check fee. They put the $35 charge as a charge off on my credit report. Don't ask me how in Gods name they were able to get my social security number. It was a nightmare. Don't go to Mohican. They have lost their way and treat you like a number not a valuable patron.

Good place to stay out of!!!!!!!!

Nothstar used to be the only place to go, but since they built the new casino the slots are so tight they squeak. My husband and I have heard too many people complain about the payouts. $100 gets you nothing any more. I sat next to a lady who put $400 in a nickel machine and got nothing. I have put a $100 in penny machines and got nothing. The casino lacks the warmth and fun it had a few years ago. They must be trying to pay for it this year so don't plan on winning anything at all. We have started going to Wittenburg and find the payouts much better. Mason St. in Green Bay is also better.

Good Fun

I just wanted to post my thoughts as well on Northstar. My wife and I go there about once a month, we enjoy ourselves and feel like we have more of a chance doing well there as opposed to Oneida, and Menominee (which we drive past from Appleton).

I would have to say the only downfall of this new casino is the fans that they put in the floor make my wife uncomfortable, it is a smart design however for the people that do not enjoy all of the smoke - but don't really think they are needed.

As far as them not having a hotel on site, it sounds like once the economy improves that they are going to continue on with the construction project. For now though my wife and I stay at the Konkopot lodge that is a mile or so down the street, the service that we get there is very impressive and there is also a great atmosphere provided by everyone staying there, we have also heard that the White pines lodge is a pretty nice place, but with the package that the konkopot lodge gives for gambling we will always stay there.

We play mostly slots so unsure how the table is, the people playing craps are always sounding pretty happy! The slots allow us to keep playing, and can generally play all night with $100.00 which is good because it is basically entertainment with the outside chance that you can hit it big, and that is the way we approach this casino.

It seems like a lot of people don't feel that they send out comps, then you are not taking advantage of everything that they have to offer. We get mail offers for cash, and also free dinners or discounted dinners which is pretty nice. Also on their website you can play a game called shoot for the stars and win prizes ranging from a logo prize, 500 points on your players card(first time is 1000) 5 or 10 dollars, golf, and hotel stays at local lodges you are really selling yourself short if you don't take advantage of this. I often get the points, and have accumulated 5,000 points just for shoot for the stars.....

Hope this helps!

Be Prepared To Lose

Mohican Northstar Casino is just too damn greedy. But I guess that could be said for most of the casinos in Wisconsin. If table games are your thing, I cannot comment on that because I have only played slots at Mohican Casino. But if you like slots, well read on.

I have spent a TON of money at Mohican, and have received absolutely nothing except a kick in the ass as I was heading out the door. Their players club is a joke and so is their customer service. You have to accumulate 2500 points to earn $10 cash back which is pathetic. From my experience there, be prepared to take along at least $2,000 to earn a measly $10 back. To earn at least 2500 points you have to put a lot of money through their machines not just in them. Because their pay outs are so bad you are constantly putting money into those black holes instead of recycling it and earning points. I have NEVER and I mean NEVER received anything from Mohican in the form of comps after spending well over ten grand there in a relatively short period of time. Try going to one of Harrah's properties in either Illinois of Las Vegas. The most I ever spent at one of Harrah's casinos was a lousy $300 but every month like clockwork they send me a voucher for a free hotel stay, a $40 dining credit along with free play. They have been doing that for over a year now. Indian Casinos in Wisconsin, especially Mohican Northstar take their patrons for granted. It's time to take a stand and fight back! Enough said.

Northstars New Casino

Mohican Northstar used to be one of my favorite casinos to visit. I have been there many times and had a great time, the people were friendly and you could play for a while and have a good time with friends. you did not have to bring an enormous wad of cash to play for a while and sometimes walk away up a little.

Northstar has expanded and built a fancy upscale casino in place of the old one and I have noticed the new casino pays for squat, the atmosphere has changed and customers are angry. It is hard to have a good time when there are people on either side of you complaining about the payouts. I frequent other casinos in the area and find one of the best to be in Whittenberg. If you go to the new Northstar casino bring a helmet because they might as well beat you over the head and steal your wallet......................................... but hey, the soda is free.

The Worst Payouts Around

Northstar Casino in WI has to have the worst payouts I have ever seen. Take a lot of money and don't plan on taking any home with you. It was not only me either, I have never seen so many negative grumble patrons in my life as I did at this casino.

I should have known when I walked into the door and the couple leaving greeted me with 'Don't bother even going in there' and then I heard all the negative complaining about how the machines were paying when I walked into the restroom.

They do not offer match plays to new customers and instead they give you a slip which you have to use in selected machines, which as I expected were set to pay out nothing but make me feel like I was already winning.

The players club was not one of the friendlier ones I have ever seen but as for the floor staff, they were very very friendlly and the food was very good. Not as cheap as a lot of the other casinos in the area that offer food but still not too badly priced.

They do not have a hotel and I did not play the tables, so I can not honestly rate these two items but I heard they are building a hotel as I write this so hopefully when it is completed, they will follow other casino practices as offer so really good hotel packages, because as of right now, I do not see a reason to ever want to return to Northstar any time in the future.
