Officials said the four men, dressed in black, fired one shot into the glass case and then wrapped a chain around the case and attempted to pull it out of the casino.
The robbery occurred just after 2 a.m. and there were about 500 to 1,000 people inside the casino. However, Barona Casino Resort General Manager Rick Salinas said the incident took place in an isolated area.
“Quite frankly, I don’t think anybody else in the rest of the casino knew it was actually going on,” Salinas said .
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported that about $3,000 was taken during the robbery, but Salinas could not confirm the amount taken.
The casino was not evacuated and no employees were injured.
