Casino Finally Pays $105,731 Disputed Slot Jackpot to Australian Woman

Australian woman finally paid $105,000 jackpot won on abondoned creditA gambling rule change has allowed Cecelia Cubillo to collect her 18-month-old $105,731 in slot machine winnings from an Australian casino.

Cubillo had won the jackpot on a gaming machine using another player’s abandoned $1 credit.

A change of commissioner in the Office of Liquor and Gambling and media coverage of the story helped to change the policy on giving Ms. Cubillo her winnings. Before, strict rules had applied to “abandoned credits,” so gamblers could take a break and still keep their slot machines free.

“This is a fantastic win, but there are some issues about the way the payment was handled that we need to sit down and talk about in the new year,” said Cecelia Cubillo’s spokeswoman Diana Awarau.

“Cecelia is very happy that she has her prize and she and I am going to have a nice Christmas break.”

A spokeswoman for the casino says rules are being rewritten so that prizes won on abandoned slot credits can be honored in the future.
