Florida Gaming Corp., which owns the property, is hoping that an extensive renovation of the facility, including the addition of new slots as well as improving entertainment and dining amenities, will attract a broader customer base.

A 2004 Florida constitutional amendment gave South Florida pari-mutuels ( dog tracks, horse tracks, and jai-alai frontons) the opportunity to add slots and become “racinos.”

Two other Miami-Dade County racinos, one located at Flagler Dog Track (Magic City Casino) and another at Calder Race Course, are already up and running, and historic Hialeah Park is currently working on building a slots casino as well.
