“Some of the smaller casinos, definitely myself, we’re still a mom-and-pop place,” said the owner and general manger of Saloon No. 10 Louie Lalonde. “We’re definitely not going to be able to bankroll that money in our cage,” she said. “It’s just something we’re not able to do, as well as afford the security updates.”
According to Deadwood Gaming Association President Tom Nelson, it is likely that less than 10 Deadwood casinos will take advantage of the new legislation. Among those who will be upping the ante are Mineral Palace and the Silverado.
Recently, the South Dakota Commission on Gaming released its draft rules for the new bet limits, but they have not yet received final approval. Casinos are waiting on the new rules before putting any big changes into place.
