According to a press release issued by the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, owners of the FireKeepers Casino, “significant progress” has been made on the property’s planned expansion.
FireKeepers’ expansion, which consists of the raising of an eight-story, 242-room hotel, began in May. When completed, this will allow the property to increase amenities; expand the gaming space that includes slot machines, video poker and table games such as blackjack; plus open a 2,000-seat concert space. The casino’s bingo space will also be expanded to 10,000 square feet which will double the current player capacity.
The band has and will continue to support local suppliers and businesses during the expansion and, according to the press release, the construction has created over 700 construction jobs and more than $100 million in subcontractor contracts for local people and businesses.
According to the press release, the project is currently on track for it’s Fall 2012 opening.
