High Rollers will currently have to visit Silverado, Mineral Palace, The Lodge or the Deadwood Mountain Grand if they would like to take advantage of the new limit. Cadillac Jacks will also be added to the list as soon as its new devices are approved by the South Dakota Commission on Gaming.
The participating Deadwood casinos had to add additional security measures such as keeping surveillance footage on file longer and having a pit boss present at the table when the high level bets are being made.
Casino officials hope the new limit will help attract a different type of gambler and may bring in more business from other states such as Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and Colorado and Las Vegas.
“This is a positive tool for the industry to try to market to get a different gambler, a different breed of cat, to participate,” said Tom Nelson, president of the Deadwood Gaming Association and chief proponent of the bill as a senator.
