In addition to its bingo event, Foxwoods will also honor more than a dozen loyal team members in a special dedication ceremony led by Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council Chairman Rodney Butler on July 6.
“It’s been an incredible experience to watch Foxwoods grow into the world-class resort casino it is today. We are extremely proud of our bingo roots and we’re thrilled to be able to celebrate our loyal customers and dedicated staff on this momentous occasion.” said Vice President of Bingo Operations Michael Holder.
Originally opened as a bingo hall, the gaming facility owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe has changed dramatically since its grand opening on a July weekend exactly 25 years ago. In 1986, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal leaders opened a bingo hall with 1,200 seats and an ambitious vision. Since that date, Foxwoods Casino has evolved into one of the largest casinos in the hemisphere and one most popular destination attractions in the country.
By 1991, the number of bingo seats at the facility doubled from 1,200 to 2,400. Foxwoods Resort Casino debuted in 1992, with the addition of table games, and slot machines in 1993. The property grew rapidly and by 1994 the bingo hall expanded to 3,500 seats. In 2006, Foxwoods Resort and Casino signed a partnership with MGM Mirage to develop a $700 million expansion and announced that they would lease the MGM Grand brand name for the new building. The expansion, entitled The MGM Grand at Foxwoods, debuted on May 17, 2008.
Together with the MGM Grand at Foxwoods, Foxwoods Resort Casino is one of the largest casino complexes in the world with 4,700,000 sq ft of space. The casino offers over 380 gaming tables including blackjack, craps, roulette, and poker. Foxwoods also has the most slot machines of any casino in the world with more than 6500 units.
The resort also features than 2,220 guest rooms in four world-class hotels, 38 dining experiences including restaurants from renowned chefs Tom Colicchio, David Burke and Scott Mickelson, 6,500 slot machines, 360 table games, 2 spas, multiple nightclubs, a nationally-ranked golf course, a comedy club, luxury bowling lanes and New England’s only World Poker Tour-branded poker room.
