Last week, an unidentified player netted $5.3 million in about six hours at the Tropicana’s blackjack, craps, and mini-baccarat tables. The player became the second gambler in the span of two months that has won over $5 million at the casino. In April, Don Johnson, a professional gambler from Bensalem, Pennsylvania, won $5.8 million playing blackjack.
Johnson has been making headlines in the last months after hitting several Atlantic City Casinos for millions of dollars. Between December and April, he won approximately $15 million at Atlantic City’s tables. Reportedly, Johnson won more than $4.2 million at Caesar’s Atlantic City and $5 million the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa playing single blackjack hands of up to $100,000.
Tropicana Resort & Casino officials say that despite the recent losses, the Tropicana will keep pursuing major players and maintain its new emphasis on high-stakes table games play.
“That’s just how it goes sometimes; if you bet more, you can win more. We have a strategy of offering the most aggressive and highest table games limits in the Atlantic City market and we’re not going to change that. If someone wants to take the shot, we’ll take the action.” commented Tony Rodio, the Tropicana’s president and CEO.
