The South Dakota casino, which was located on Main Street, took up about half a block of Downtown Deadwood and was one of the city’s major casinos.

“The Gold Dust has been around since the very beginning,” said Deadwood and Lead Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Chuck Turbiville. “When gaming first started it was one of the premiere casinos in Deadwood and now we’ve gone all the way to the point where it’s closed so it’s not a good deal for the city, it’s not a good deal for gaming, and it certainly is extremely unfortunate for the people that work there.”

Officials at the Deadwood casino said it was being closed for renovations, but no real details have been offered on the casino’s closure.
