Monorail officials stated that since its opening in 2004, the monorail system has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 37 tons and eliminated an estimated 2.4 million vehicle miles that would have otherwise clogged Las Vegas roads. Officials also said the monorail carries an average of about 70,000 people in and out of the Las Vegas Convention Center during large events.
A single-ride ticket costs $5 and the monorail has six stops: Sahara Station, Las Vegas Hilton Station, Las Vegas Convention Center Station, Harrah’s / Imperial Palace Station, Flamingo / Caesars Palace Station, Bally’s & Paris Las Vegas Station and MGM Grand Station
Revenue and ridership have been an issue for the monorail and officials are currently working on a new plan to get the monorail out of bankruptcy. U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Bruce Markell rejected the monorail’s previous Chapter 11 bankruptcy exit plan in November, saying terms “doom it to failure, if not in the next few years then certainly by 2019.”
