The referendum for the project is tentatively scheduled for November 19th. If voters in Bossier Parish give their approval, construction would begin in the first months of 2012 with completion expected in May 2013. According to project co-owners Paul Alanis and William Trotte, the new Margaritaville Casino will help grow the Shreveport & Bossier City area to $842 million in gambling revenue in 2014.
If approved, the new casino will become the sixth riverboat casino in Shreveport/Bossier area. The Shreveport/Bossier city casinos include: Boomtown Casino & Hotel Bossier City, Diamond Jack’s Casino, Sam’s Town Hotel & Casino Shreveport, Eldorado Casino Shreveport, Horseshoe and Harrah’s Louisiana Downs. Bossier City Casino Venture LLC, developers of the new Margaritaville Casino, has an option to buy one of the two riverboat licenses in Lake Charles owned by Isle of Capri Casinos Inc. If the plan gets approved by voters, Isle of Capri would be shutting down its Crown Casino in Lake Charles. The company also owns the Grand Palais riverboat casino in the same location.
Although Bossier City Casino Venture is buying the Crown Casino as part of the license deal, the plan submitted by the company also includes the construction of a 16-floor, 396-room resort hotel with 36 suites. The $170 million project would be located along the banks of the Red River adjacent to Bass Pro, and will feature a one-floor gaming barge, multi-use center, Margarita ville-themed retail space and parking lot with capacity for 1500 cars.
