MGM Resorts Int'l Wants to Build $800 Million Casino Resort in Springfield, MA
The complex would span about three blocks and feature an 89,000 square-foot casino with slots and table games, a 25-story hotel, a retail shopping area and parking garage.
“Ours is a vision rooted in partnerships that would increase tourism by elevating the level of dining, retail, and entertainment not only within the MGM project area but hopefully opening onto Main Street, throughout downtown Springfield and the rest of this great city,” said MGM chairman and chief executive Jim Murren said in a statement.
According to MGM officials, its project would create over 2,000 construction jobs and “thousands” of permanent jobs. This is good news for Springfield, which has been struggling financially and facing high unemployment.

an entertainment complex a housing area.
This would be the first Massachusetts casino in such an urban setting and a new experience for MGM, which is better known for its Las Vegas strip properties such as Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, and New York-New York.
