According to the state the fight, which was between two individuals living with disabilities, was not sanctioned.
The fight was to go on despite receiving trouble from the state as it was set to occur on tribal land, but the state presented the fight’s promoter with a cease and desist letter just five minutes before the bout was set to being. The Florida casino was then forced to cancel the event.
The fighters, Garrett Holeve, 23, and David Steffin, 28,who have downs syndrome and cerebral palsy, were not able to fight and Holeve’s father is crying discrimination. Holeve’s father has reached out to both the Boxing Commission and the National Down Syndrome Society for help on the matter.
