Online Poker May Be Coming to Nevada Casinos in 2012
Online Poker in the state
of Nevada is expected to be big in 2012.
With the approval of certain regulations last week, internet poker services may now be able to seek the Nevada Gaming Commission's permission to operate within the state.
Due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006, online gaming is only allowed within state borders.
It is uncertain when the Gaming Commission will give its approval but Mark Lipparelli, chairman of the Gaming Control Board, said “It’s technically feasible to operate [online poker] in-state in 2012.”
After a long slump in casino revenue, online poker may be what the state needs to pick itself up.
Unfortunately for smaller nevada casinos, a bill passed in 2011 states that in Washoe County, which includes Reno casinos, only casino resorts with over 200 rooms will be eligible.
