Although the official opening ceremony will be staged on Thursday, September 1st, the Plaza opened mid morning on Wednesday, August 24th to let guests visit and gamble at its casino as part of a soft opening announced in June, 2011. As it’s being reported on several local news sites, the Plaza casino opened its table games by 9:30 a.m. and the bingo room welcomed its first entrants for a special bingo tournament set to take place next Saturday.
A new food outlet also welcomed Plaza’s first customers yesterday morning. Located across from the brand new reception area of the Plaza, the new Cafelatte offers guests a specialty coffee bar at affordable prices. Beverages will include freshly brewed coffee and tea, espresso and cappuccino, imported iced tea and assorted juices, sodas and waters. Open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Cafelatte will serve assorted pastries and deserts as well as various salads and sandwiches to-go for a quick bite at lunch or dinner. The café will also serve 12 flavors of gelato.
The Plaza Hotel & Casino closed its doors in November as owner Tamares Group started a $35 million renovation project. The all-new Plaza will feature rich marble, elegant tile accents and modern fixtures, furniture, carpet and wall coverings, all purchased from the Fontainebleau resort.
The formal opening scheduled on September 1st will include all guest rooms. Other areas and elements, such as the Oscar’s steakhouse, will start admitting customers in the following weeks.
