Terrible’s St. Joe Frontier Casino evacuated as a precaution on Monday morning when water from the Missouri River flooded its parking lot and went above a boat dock on the backside of the lot. The City of St. Joseph also closed Heritage Park Softball Complex – just north of the casino – due to rising water.
General Manager Craig Travers says there’s nowhere the casino can place sandbags and that all efforts to keep the water out were made this Monday. Mr. Travers said the Missouri casino cannot begin pumping water out of the parking lot until the river drops below 27 feet.
The Missouri River is has surpassed major flood stage of 27 feet in St. Joseph and it’s expected to rise above 28 feet in the coming days. According to information from the National Weather Service, the water levels in St. Joseph are not expected to lower to 27 feet until at least the weekend. Terrible’s St. Jo Frontier Casino General Manager said they will re-evaluate their chances of opening this Friday.
