“We do have a couple plans, possibly a renovation plan with hotel rooms,” said director of Las Vegas properties for Tamares Jonathan Jossel. “We’re very committed to that area and we have a lot of interest in seeing that area come back.”
Tamares Group acquired the property in 2005, after buying it from Barrick Gaming. The original owners of the Western, Jackie Gaughan and Mel Exber, opened the casino in 1970 as a bingo parlor.
Tamares also owns the Plaza and the Las Vegas Club, which are both also located in Downtown Las Vegas. The Western’s 90 employees were sent termination notices in November and may be considered for positions at these properties.
As of right now, it is unknown what will become of the Western property, but it will likely no longer be a casino.
