Good Job By Security!
My son is in the military and will be leaving to go to Germany, tomorrow. We decided to go and have a good time at the Horseshoe to celebrate. While there my son left his cell phone at a slot machine. He returned to the machine about 10 minutes later and the phone was gone. We went to security and explained the urgency of finding the phone. Security found the person with the cell phone within the hour and returned it to my son. What a great security team. I want to thank Joan and Thomas and those who assisted for a job well done.
We always have fun at the Horseshoe
This is our favorite mid-west casino. We don't usually win, however, we do get some entertainment value for our money. One bad thing is Indiana taxes jackpots for non-residents. We have a few favorite machines and would like to see some more quarter poker machines added. The Range Steakhouse is always good and the buffet is above average. The Horseshoe has no hotel facility so they force us to stay at another casino that offers rooms and spend some of our gambling budget there.
Need Better Dealers
not that great
Horseshoe Hammond & a motorhome
I visited the Horseshoe Hammond on a trip north from Georgia to Wisconsin in September. I had sent an email in advance asking if motorhome parking was provided. The answer sent back was there was a lot across the railroad tracks in the AMTRAK parking lot. Using my GPS, I was able to find it without too much trouble. However, I had to walk across active railroad tracks and through the Valet area to get into the casino. Of course, there is also a big sign that says no pedestrians allowed. What I found as I entered was a large parking area on the first floor of the parking garage with a 20' high ceiling and a few staff cars parked. It would have more than held 15 to 20 RV's. I played for a while without too much success and then ate supper at the buffet. The view was nice looking out over the lake but the food was less than good quality. I sampled a number of dishes and really never found anything I would classify as good. After a while of additional futile playing slots, I gave up and left for the drive through Chicago. However, I plan to visit again next year as I make the trip. One visit does not make a good sampling at any casino!
Nice location
Beautiful location on Lake Michigan. Buffet has good food and nice view of the harbor and Chicago in the distance. Deli was good too. Diamond Club is better than most. Table games and slots seem average. Sports bar is nice. Casino is large with a variety of tables and many slots. Cell phones work fine in the building - had been a problem in the past. Clean restrooms. Employees in general are very nice. Only down side is smoking is allowed everywhere. Stinky messy people have free reign. If the casino is crowded, you won't be breathing clean air. Wish they would ban smoking like Illinois did.
Play at any other Casino
I highly recommend playing at any other Casino besides Hammond Horseshoe. Went to see a concert. Security was out of control. Telling people to sit down, stop dancing, don't take pictures while hundreds of flashes are going off. Not good for a rock concert. Had about 30 security guards and only one bartender at main center bar. Slots do not payback at all, I tried all different denominations. No Hotel. Received free buffet for spending $50 not 30 minutes as advertised. Food at buffet made me sick 15 minutes after I ate. Drink prices are out of control high!!! Physical condition of outside casino is horrible. stay home or burn your money again go to any other casino!
new casino
best buffet in the area, busy nights and weekends, smokey, ok $1 video poker
Very nice
Rebuilt casino is very nice! Buffet has beautiful view of Lake Michigan. Table game limits are high on weekends but reasonable early. Slots galore. Nice sports bar in middle of casino to catch a score or watch a game with friends. Entertainment venue upstairs. Diamond club also has a view of the lake. Negatives - Smoking allowed at tables (cough, cough.) Most cell phones don't work in this casino. Slot payback not the greatest.
Beautiful
Nice selection of slots, high minimums on table games, good buffet. Most beautifull casino in Chicagoland (should be for a 1/2 billion dollar barge). Decent video poker available at the $1 level.
Biggest downside.....NO HOTEL!!! $500,000,000 spent and did not include a hotel!!!
Trashy
I only went there because I was still a smoker and IL went non-smoking. This place is junkie. I won't use the elevators because they sound like they'll slam through the bottom of the boat.
With 4 floors I do get my exercise but it makes it difficult to locate anyone. Machines are crammed too close together.
They are opening a new casino late summer/early fall. Might check it out but won't go often. They don't have an attached hotel. I travel 150 miles and stayed for the weekend. I won't play often where I can't stay.
Just Okay
Good on weekdays. Weekends it gets too packed. Slots have decent payout. Drinks are expensive.
