Expected to open by mid-2012
Here is an update of Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway as of 10/20/11 courtesy of Rick Alm who also took the photographs:
The Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway will be located in the Kansas City, Missouri western suburbs about 17 miles from downtown Kansas City. The elegant, 1930's art-deco themed casino will feature 2,000 slots, 52 table games, indoor parking garage, four restaurants, three lounges and a breathtaking view of the adjacent Kansas Speedway NASCAR track. The $411 million casino, which is expected to open 1Q12 is operated by Penn National Gaming and is a 50-50 venture of Penn and track owner International Speedway Corporation.
Later phases could add a hotel, spa, convention facility, a retail mall, more parking and more gaming. The property is part of the "Village West" retail, dining and entertainment complex in Kansas City, Kansas that also features two sports stadiums (pro soccer and independent pro baseball), that has become the top tourist attraction in Kansas drawing more than 12 million visitors a year. The photos depict the front of the structure, the main entry area to the casino floor and a view of the Kansas Speedway track and grandstand from the casino's sports bar outdoor patio deck.
In the photo the track infield is packed with RV's because the Hollywood Casino 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup race was scheduled to begin about three hours from the time the photo was taken on Sunday, Oct. 9.
