I was excited to check out a riverboat casino, and in the area for work. The outside looked awesome, the inside was super smokey and had garbage on the carpet. We clearly didn't know where to go no signs just looking lost, and it was really hard to find anyone that worked there that wasn't avoiding eye contact and walking off. Finally found where you sign up ourselves and got in line. We heard some casinos put a little money on the card your first time, we told the girl at the desk after waiting in an impossibly long it was our first time. She asked us info like our phone number, addy, email... we figured they were confirming we were new. She gives us our cards, saying nothing. So we go off to the slots, and find a $0 balance. Why did they need all our info then? Whatever, we go to a touchscreen machine, to try to put some money on the card. It asks us for our pin. We weren't given a pin, and the number on the card doesn't work as it. At this point, I've inhaled enough second hand smoke to take a year off my life. Even the tiny non smoking area on Level 1 (down the escalator) has ashtrays and people smoking. I also saw very few cocktail waitresses, and none were carrying any drinks or asking anyone what they wanted. This place had the best reviews? Oh what a world.
gone down the tubes
this casino is a victim of the economy. It was a pretty good place to be until the last few month's. Services cut, breakfast buffet discontinued and not a place for winners as paranoia has set in. Management sweating all action and hostile to winners who know what they are doing..I found the hotel accommodating and helpful to me. comps honored without question. Don't rely on the bus service from hotel to casino as this has been severely cut also.
Gaming management OUT TO LUNCH!!!! Obviously under pressure to produce income.
Slot area is passable. Food is EXCELLENT! Casino as a whole is OK. HOTEL service is lousy! It is a shame too. I have stayed there several times past years and found the front desk staff outstanding.
HOWEVER, in the past 6 months or so; things have taken a drastic turn. I have attempted now, at least 3 to 4 times, to use my coupon for a FREE STAY at the hotel. EACH time I have been told there are no rooms available ... and that if I wanted to UPGRADE to Jacuzzi room it would cost me $129.00. So, that makes three trips, or four, I did not make ... and I did not spend my money. OF COURSE, I always play more than the room rate while I am there ... but, I guess that doesn't matter. ALSO, the individual answering the phone at hotel on July 26, 2009 @ approximately 2:30pm was rude and unaccommodating.
We visited the Ameristar in Vicksburg in January, 2008.
We stayed at the RV Park (used to be the Isle of Capri RV Park). The park is still as unlevel as ever.
Our overnight fee included two free breakfast buffet coupons. They run a shuttle from the RV park to the casino, but in daylight it was a nice walk.
The casino was clean, had beverage stations (didn't have to wait for a server) and a good variety of machines.
The buffet was okay for breakfast, but the desserts that were being put out for lunch looked delicious.
I am looking forward to returning.
