Luxor 4 Stars (Would be 5 if no Resort Fee

Luxor Las Vegas Review (Sept. 2011): Hotel/Casino located near South end of the Las Vegas Strip nestled in between the Mandalay Bay and Excalibur hotels. Parking/Transportation: Didn't use their parking garage as we didn't have a rental. It's very easy to get around the neighboring two casinos, i.e. Mandalay Bay and Excalibur Hotels via their free tram system. If you want to continue on to the rest of the strip Northbound, you have to get off the tram at Excalibur and transfer to the Monorail, which you can hop on at the adjacent MGM Grand casino station. Gaming: I didn't see too many Blackjack $.25 machines, wish they had more of those. Drink service was ok, but could've been more timelier when we were playing Caveman Keno. The more video poker machines the better. Restaurants: Pyramid Cafe was ok. We took our meal to go. Had the ribs which were decent. There are two Starbucks inside the Luxor. One of them gets real busy, had a line halfway down the hall, the other end doesn't get as busy. Love their chocolate croissants... Rooms: We stayed at the Celebrity Spa Suite and received a real good discount on the jacuzzi suite. Well worth it, even though we got stuck with paying their rip off Resort fee charges. MGM - We do NOT want to pay Resort fees! Do I have to say it again? I will avoid staying at any MGM resort hotels as long as you charge these Resort fees. Harrah's doesn't charge any Resort fees, guess I will be staying with them more often in Vegas, oh well.

Not Bad At All!

We sort of liked Luxor. It's one of the bigger places and I am more fond of smaller casinos but for a large place it was nice. The elevators they call "inclinators" sort of go up and sideways at the same time and that's kind of fun. We played some slots and they had a great selection. The food is decent and we also played poker. They had some football drawings going and I won one of them so that was fun too. The staff was friendly, I think this is a keeper!

If Nothing Else, See BODIES at the Luxor

First off, I love the idea/concept of this casino. I love how many of the older hotels (Luxor isn't that old but you know what I mean) are themed. A Giant Pyramid that send a beam of light and illuminates the South Strip at night. How genius?!

Anyway, if you only see or do one thing at The Luxor, check out the Bodies Exhibit. It is not gross, but rather extremely fascinating. You even get to hold a real human lung! I'm telling you it's not gross at all. It's weird how all that stuff under our skin looks and this will give you a REAL look at it.

Luxor Las Vegas

This is the large casino on the Las Vegas strip that is in the shape of a pyramid. We recently visited The Luxor to see the Criss Angel Believe show. It wasn't as good as we had expected.

Changing times

I have stayed at Luxor the past three years and will be staying this summer. In the past, if you stayed in the pyramid, you would find old worn-out rooms. They have been going through a complete facelift over the past two years and the last piece on the list is to renovate all the rooms. I don't know if the rooms have been done yet, so I would call and ask. The tower rooms are much nicer, worth the extra fee.

The decor was old Egypt, but the face lift is removing all of that. The new look is slick and modern. I liked the old look better, but I am an archaeologist at heart and that is what brought me to the Luxor to begin with. If you want a modern look, I think Luxor is getting it right. I have to admit that it works well and really looks nice, I just wish I could have bought some of the decorations they got rid of. I don't kinow when the renovations are expected to be finished, so you might run into some "work in progress" problems.

The food at Luxor is really good and priced well at both the back street deli and the pyramid cafe. I love to eat at both these locations. If you eat at the cafe, don't expect to have room for dessert. I have gone there for a late lunch and only ordered the apple tart, it is big enough for a meal. Just stay away from the buffet. It is one of the worst on the strip. The higher end restaurants are fine choices for a night out. Try the Cathouse for new take on fine dining.

Luxor is not a budget casino. Don't expect to find $5 blackjack or craps. You can find $10 tables early in the day, but these become rare at night, more so on weekends. I have never had a problem finding a table or playing the type of slot machine I want. Most of the time, cocktail service has been good. I have ALWAYS found the personnel to be great. The dealers are fun and professional, and most of the pit bosses ard kind. You have a Mr. grumpy or two in any casino, just pick a different pit if that happens.

The poker room is fantastic. It is medium in size. Big enough to have a fun time, small enough to feel like you are not a cog in a machine. I have never found nicer dealers. (there is one mean day dealer, you will know right away when she sits down) The rest are involved in the game and the players, making your stay much more interactive and fun. They have a way of opening up the table to having a good time. You will love the time at the table win or lose. (mostly lose if i'm there LOL)

I don't like the Bodies exhibit. It is a retread from the Tropicanna. I would of thought they could of come up with something new. The Chriss Angel show is also not getting good reviews. I can't say, it was not open yet last year.

I still like the Luxor overall. I will be happy when the renovations are done. If you stay there on repeated vacations, the VIP check-in is worth its weight in gold.

Took a side trip because they sent me a coupon

Luxor sent me a $25 free slot play coupon, so we took the monorail down there and walked over. I turned the $25 into $80 and we left. It was worth the trip.

I'd like to ride their elevators and would like to see their rooms. I've talked to some young people, they like to stay at Luxor.

Dark and Damp

Visited 7/10/08. The outside is the best part. Inside is dark.

Tables are too high and slots are tight. Not impressed. Self park was easy.
