Lucky few

I live in a 55 and older community. The Winstar bus picks us up at the community center two times a month. There are about 50 of us on the bus. They charge us $10 to ride the bus to Winstar. We have a fun trip there and back. They give us a free breakfast and offer us Player club members get $25 playing money.

Seems like every time I go the person next to me hits a nice jackpot. But never me. Havent figured it out yet. I get 20 $1 from the cashier go on my merry way. By the time I get the $20 spent I start on the $25 I get from the Players Club.

I have tried playing the slots down the line. I was told that the three ring machines are the best way to go. But not for me. The attendance are of no help. You ask them to point out some slots that are paying they act dumb. Seems like they would want to see me win a little but no.

Someone told me to play the machines that are noticeable to others the most like up by the cashiers. Food courts. But not me. Video Poker is the best way to win at slots. Not me.

Going back home we talk about our experience. 9 out of 10 lose. The best thing about the trip is the free breakfast.

Will here I sit waiting for the bus to come and take me to the reservation to get scalped.DgR

The Slots DO Pay...

My wife and I have been going every weekend for about 3 months now after going maybe once every other month the past few years. I have seen many hand pays on the $5 and up machines, and some on the $1 ones.

Just yesterday we were next to a guy getting his $5100 hand pay on a 3 credit $5 slot (the Fish-themed one). The weekend before a lady hit the largest jackpot on a 5x$1 and got $12,500, which attracted quite a crowd. And we've hit $2400 twice in the last two months on a $5 Money Bags machine. The general rule is if it's not hitting on at least a cherry/lucky duck/etc. within 10 spins then wait 5 minutes and/or try another machine. It seems to go in streaks.

That being said, I have also watched people dump over $3,000 into the same machines and walk away empty handed. At $5-$15 a spin it doesn't take many "empty spins" to burn through some real money. You have to commit to "loss floor" and perhaps more importantly, a "win ceiling". The $5100 winner from the other day easily gave back $1000 while waiting on his payout!

That being said, I still don't trust the bingo-based machines but in the end they seem to pay as good or better than truly "random" slots. It helps to know that you are playing for a pool of 'prizes' against other players, so there seems to be an optimal balance between having enough people playing to build up the "cash pool" but not so many that your chances of getting the 'prize' is minimized.

Winstar might be tight but it's definitely not impossible. If you're just looking for the fun of playing, 25 cent slots are the way to go... but they rarely pay big. Don't get me started on 200 credit per spin penny slots...

So about the casino itself...
- It's very nice inside and I like the themed areas.
- The beer/alcohol specials make drinks reasonably priced, but the measured pours and high prices are disappointing.
- We like the pizza and burger joints. Toby Keith's is really pricey for the quality of the food, but they have good drink specials.
- Customer service? Ha! I usually have to track down an attendant if the paper is out.
- Comps? Ha! You'd think we would get more than a free weekday stay at Roach Motel next door with our play.

good and bad

I have been playing there 6-8 months. I won $5000 on a bar video poker machine labor day weekend, so I can't say winning is impossible. I did manage to give it all back over our next 3 trips. Probably $1000 down on the year (have to check win/loss statement) They seem to have tightened up during the remodel, can't play half as long for the money. They do have a superior selection of slots. Most will give up $100 jackpots once in a while, but will take it all back if you keep playing. Video poker is up and down, but odds tables are tight.
Bar prices are outrageous, wont waste money on $5 beers and $7 drinks. Buffet is good but service is slack and lines are long. They bus tables way too slow and seat single people in a booth set up for 4. New restaraunts will have to be run better to get my money.
Toby Keith's is the best place there, well worth a visit (I don't think it's run by Winstar). Good food, prices and service. Never played the tables so can't say one way or another.
The players club is really tight with comps. I spend $1000 every time I go there, sometimes more, my wife spends half of that and I use her card to keep up her points...but after 6 months with a visit each month she still didnt rate a comp room on the weekend and I was only offered area hotels for Fri. Sat. we come and stay 2-3 days and drop $2000 you would think they would want us back...she gets coupons for $5-$10 free play and no other offers...I get $15-$25 and a free buffet as my incentives. We didn't come one month because we went to Vegas instead and our comp offers all but disappeared. I was told that you are tracked by how often you come, how much you gamble, how long you gamble, average bet and many other factors and if and when you hit the magical tier, they will have a host get in touch with you, you can't get a host any other way. This is what the snarky host I managed to get hold of told me.
Screw them, we went to Vegas 3 times last year and places we gambled a few hundred in send us better offers. We will save our money for Vegas, where comps are easy, beer is free while playing, and there is enough competition to keep casinos from ripping off their players to buy more casinos, remodel the existing casino and build more hotel rooms...I hope they finish their hotel improvements and nobody comes...even for free.

Winstar pure greed !

We have given that patron robber a chance several times , but shall never go back . I used to think the American Indians had lots of character , but that wonderful trait has somehow vanished . I never thought I would see my people ( I am mostly American Indian ) fall to this level of greed and mistreatment of our fellow man . It is heartbreaking to see all of the people going to Winstar with some
" hope " and leaving with nothing but disappointment . It should be closed down by losing all of the public support until they can face reality and share as they should . I have heard that they have purchased Diamond Jacks Casino in Shreveport which we have frequented for years . We shall probably bring those visits to a halt now as well . To all " hopeful " patrons --Stay Away Stay Away Stay Away ! We can collectively shut them down and we should as a public service !!!

WILL NEVER GO BACK TO WINSTAR !!

I have been going to Winstar for years. Payouts OK, but enjoyed playing the slots. Last November, the slots changed for some reason; I believe Winstar changed the slots to server based. Reels would go on FOREVER before they stopped; some reels looked like they were going to stop and then started up again, but the worst part was lack of payouts. On the Double the Devil machine, hitting 5 devils would net you $80 plus 60 free spins, usually $500-$700. After November, I've only hit 5 devils once and won a whopping $135 (remember, you automatically get $80) so I only won $55 on 60 free spins. Other machines also feel 'tightened". Question: are all of the machines at Winstar server based now?? Meaning, they could/did change the payouts after their remodel over the past 9 months. I will NEVER, EVER to back to LOSERstar. I live in Texas and 98% of the cars in the parking lot are generally from Texas. And Texas: don't hold your breath to get "legalized" gaming in Texas (ie: Lotto, 8-liners for "Amusement Only"; The Chickasaw Indian Nation was the 7th largest contributor to Gov. Perry's campaign in 2010, and as long as he is the Gov, he will not allow a referendum to the residents of Texas to vote on potentially legalizing gaming. Also, $5 for a Shiner- give me a break!!

very few payouts now

i have been going to winstar with friends and family since around 2004. for a while my friend and i would go almost every week. most of the time we could play for a few hours before losing all our money. but the last couple years it has been very seldom that i have won much of anything. the machines don't seem to pay out like they use to in the past. i guess it's like others here have said...the casino needs ALL our money now to pay for all the new construction going on there. if you read the comments posted below it seems very few people say they have won. the casino is pretty nice and they now have an el fenix restuarant that my sister and i tried a couple weeks ago and it was pretty good. i live about 30 minutes from winstar and used to go fairly often but now maybe once a month because the machines just don't pay out much anymore. still fun to go just to watch the people and maybe win a little. they do have the free senior breakfast on wednesday and thursday which i have to give them credit for. and on wednesday they also give you $20 on your players card. gives seniors somewhere to go and gets them out of the house and have a little fun. they just need to change the payout on the machines and let people win a little more often...or just simply win at all!

Tough to win here now

I have been going to winstar for about 5 years and have had a great time every time until this last year. overall for last year i walked away 3000.00 ahead. However, i have lost 8 times that amount in only 8 months. There payOff has dissapeared... the machine might give you 200 but only after youve lost 4-500. I had an envelope with 900.00 left in it and as i was walking to the hotel room, the envelope came out of my pocket. This was my fault of course but, everytime i look up... Im constantly reminded that Im being watched by thousands of cameras... So, I ran to the secuirty office and talked to the supervisor... i showed him the exact places I had been so he could pull the cameras up and see what happened with the money. about 2 hours later... He notified me that he would keep checking it out but couldnt find anything. Then... i found out that he closed out his report and that it couldnt be found. Thats funny... especially considering how observant there attendants are to how you play on there machines and such...

I guess that with all the loosing just kind of hit me wrong... They have stopped sending as much complimentary cards in the mail...

on this trip... playing quarter machines, I quickly lost over 400.00
On the dollar machines,,, I lost 500.00 in about 30 minutes
and on the other machines.. I lost about 1400
if your going to play for a long period... Only bet 1 line at one penny and hope that you havent gone through a 20 with in 20 minutes
This place has gotten very rediculous and quite tight... If you happen to pass by... You might notice the new hotel and constant growth of everything from the inside to the out. none of this would be possible without money... Your money and mine is Building this soon to be... largest US Casino.
Also, I did read several of these reviews and the few that are positive, look like they were written by the winstar publicity department.

Know what machine to play

Winstar sucks for most people that play for fun. Once you learn to play to win you will have a better chance of winning. I've won $10,000.00 at Winstar in two weeks. I win often at winstar, my problem is learn how to bring my Jackpot home.

Winstar...Great for the Dallas Gambler!!!

For the Dallas gambler, Winstar is GREAT! I enjoy it every time I go up there. Winstar is one of the largest casinos in the world and offers the slot player a lot of variety. If you are a table game player, be warned that the tables are always crowded. Luckily though, Winstar has lots of clusters of table games in their various gaming plazas. The Beijing Plaza is almost entirely tables and the Vienna Plaza offers many table games as well. Don't be mislead by all of the other reviews. I feel that they are just angry that they lost. It's not the casino's fault. Blame probability and luck! After all you do GAMBLE in a casino, right? And you can't expect to win every time.

Winstar has a lot to offer. They have many restaurants. There's something for everyone. I recommend Chips & Ales in the London gaming plaza. They have good fish and chips and their burgers aren't bad either. Matador's Pizza is also a good choice in the Madrid Gaming Plaza.

One of my favorite things about Winstar is the concerts they host. I mean they have some of the biggest names in entertainment coming to perform there (Reba Mc Entire, Larry the Cable Guy, Craig Ferguson, Kelly Clarkson, Sting, you name it- those are just some recent ones). It is a very intimate venue. And, the prices are VERY reasonable!

They have a couple different hotel options to choose from. There's the Winstar Inn (a small 3 or 4 story hotel just to the south of the casino) and then there's the Winstar World Casino Hotel (a 12 story hotel connected to the north side of the casino). The Winstar World Casino Hotel is very nice. Comfy beds, always very clean, nice bathrooms, complimentary coffee, etc.

If you love to play slots, this is the place to come. They have over 6,000 slot machines! So they're bound to have your favorite slot somewhere in the casino. Again you won't win every time you come. So what? Limit your spending and have a good time. Winstar is a great place to come to wind down after work. Have a drink, listen to some live entertainment and press your luck a little. Dallas is so lucky to have such a nice place only an hour's drive away!

Lose, Lose, Lose, and more Losing

This place is a huge ripoff. I have played there off and on for four years and have NEVER won a jackpot. The most I ever won here was four years ago and it was for 1199.00, just under the 1200 max before they have to report to the IRS... Coincidence? I have never even gotten close to winning that amount since and I typically play with 300 to 500 when I go. The last time was 2/26/2012 and I went with 3 other friends...ALL of us lost.. That was the last time I will go to this casino. Texas needs to vote in gaming and watch that huge ripoff casino dry up and blow away...

Winstar Should Change Their Name To LOSEStar

When the casino first opened 9 1/2 years ago I immediately won $2,000 on my first visit. Since that time I have gone with friends and family and as the casino grew bigger the payouts became smaller and smaller. I'd go 6 to 8 times a year and since that first big win I've only won big (if you want to call that big) one other time ($1280). The rest of the time my money would disappear as quickly as I put it into the machines! LOSEStar is the WORST payout casino I have ever had the displeasure to play in. You GIVE GIVE GIVE and you don't get anything back!!! Indian givers much? Seems so. There's greed greed greed going on here!!!!!!! My friends and family all say the same thing...you NEVER see anyone winning and you NEVER see anyone being paid cash for winning a big jackpot by the attendants!!! Even the staff have told me (when I have asked them flat out) that they never see big jackpots!!!!! Why do I bother going there???!!! And NEVER go on Thanksgiving or Christmas because they will take your money THAT FAST! I've gone on Thanksgiving and Christmas several times (when traveling to visit family over the holidays) and you NEVER win! $800 gone in 30 minutes!!!! SERIOUS!!! At least Choctaw Casino has better payouts that I can say!!! GO TO CHOCTAW IF YOU WANT TO GAMBLE, OR JUST SAVE UP YOUR MONEY AND FLY TO VEGAS!!! Shreveport has better payouts and you always see people winning big jackpots there. BUT NOT AT LOSEstar!!!!!

If you are a slot player, avoid this place

I live in OKC, and decided to drop by this place on my way back from Shreveport. What a huge mistake. This place ate all of my winnings from Shreveport in no time. I only played on 2 slots while I was there. The first one sucked $300 in under 5 minutes (max betting at $3 per spin). The second machine ate $500 in 10 minutes (max betting at $2.50 per spin). None of the machines were paying out. My friend was betting minimum, and he lost a few hundred.

If you are from Texas, take the extra time and go to Shreveport. At least the machines there pay out. People in Oklahoma need to avoid the casinos owned by choctaw.

What a MAJOR disappointment!! Went there this past weekend. The place was not busy at all and I found out why. NO decent payouts. My wife and I spent four hours on the slots and I did not get ONE red spin ( what a joke!!! ). The machines could not eat our money fast enough. I spoke with a lady who works there and she said foot traffic is getting smaller and smaller. I wonder why!!! NO DECENT PAYOUTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The greed of these Casino CEO's is staggering.

Not a good casino

This casino has the tightest slots I have ever seen. I don't like Choctaw either but it is 10,000 times better than this place. The hotel is great, the food at the Firehouse grill is sub par, but the slots are bad. I will never, never, never go back to WinStar. PLEASE TEXAS pass a bill to allow gambling and let's make big flea markets out of WinStar and Choctaw.

Very poor customer service!!!!

Me and my fiancée went there yesterday to play and have some fun. We started to play this machine and hit our first bonus ($1300). First we were waiting about 45 min before somebody helped us and even then it took about another 40 min to get our money. While they were bringing our money, we won another bonus ($2000). When customer service representative brought us first money, somehow my fiancée's paperwork did not match her other one, because one of the employees took her information incorrectly. So, we had to wait for Supervisor to assist us. Took her another 40 min to come, and we were told that we are not going to get our money, because paperwork is not matching, even though it was their fault because on the first receipt all the info is correct. Supervisor was extremely rude to both of us. After about 15 min of discussion she left us to bring somebody else. Waiting another 50 min, another supervisor showed up, and told us since the paperwork is incorrect we have to pay 32% taxes to casino, and we have to come another day to be able to get the money we won. We won second bonus $2,000 and they are willing to give us only $950. We still did not get our money. Two supervisors told us it only takes 24-48 hours for check to be ready, but when we call we were told it is 7-10 business days. Last 3 years we were coming to this place with our friends, family and coworkers and left much more money then we won, and we would never expect to be treated like that. Once we get our money, we are not going back there. It fills like when you lose money, it's ok, but when you win that when you have starting having problems. We won total of $3300 and Casino took $1060. Me and my fiancé are not going there anymore and we tell our friends and family about this bad experience.

Falling Star

Before the new part was added you could actually go there and play for a while and come out a winner. Since the additions this place has turned into a MAJOR rip-off. You will never see any big jackpots or hand pays. You will rarely get a red spin and when you do the payout is a joke. Everyone I talked to there says the place is going down hill fast!!! You can see it by the dwindling crowds. Some days the new part is a ghost town. Don't the Big-Wigs get it. Stop paying out and the people will STOP going. How long do they think they can cheat the customer and expect them to come back. My advice is head to Choctow, at least the drive is better from Dallas.

Great Casino

I have played slots in Arizona, North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisana and most every casino in Oklahoma and Winstar is the best. They not only have the most modern machines with the red screen feature, but I have found that they pay out the best. Last year alone I hit several time in excess of $2000.00 and I would say after playing there maybe 50 times I walked away a loser only about 10 times. I won far more than I lost as can be proven by my win loss statement.

The problem I see here with most players is that they will continue to play the same slot machine over and over even if it isn't paying and I don't spin more than 10 time on a machine unless it pays me something worth while during that ten spins. I have hit on every denomination machine and my wife was a loser until she started following my advice not to stay with a machine if it isn't paying.

The only other casino that I think can match this one is Riverwind in Tulsa.

Pretty good- fair - getting worse

The title says it all, it was pretty good when it opened, and now - my wife and I simply head the car to Shreveport. When they opened we never really won but could play for hours and hours on $400 - $500 between us for the night - all night. Now, $400 won't last 4 hours for both of us. They used to have pictures on the walls of all the winners - try and find one now. And we would love to find out ANYONE who won a car or anything really big at this casino. Must be all hush hush - or did anyone ever win? We have been comped a room twice and the hotel itself is pretty nice, but both times have lost our A** the next day after spending the night. Won't fall for that again. If we don't use our club cards, we seem to be able to play longer, but once the club card goes in - bye-bye money. We like the self service drink booths but the food really sucks - all of it. Eat before you come. We won't be going back unless someone starts winning - ANYTHING!

SAVE YOUR MONEY

10/28/2010 Our Party of 7 have been traveling to and playing slots for the last few years, some times twice a week. We did play at the new Riverwind ,aka never win Winstar aka Duee cheetums, Choctaw, chock it up has a loss. These Casinos have drove most loyal customers away with tight slots and poor service the Winstar Casino has hundreds of Machines and many in house Progressives that don't ever pay out, just eye candy for the viewing. I believe that the State Regulatory Commission must have their hand in the pot as well has the state there machines IGT,VGT,WMS, just to name a few can not be regulated with Fair Play. The gaming REGULATORS WHAT REGULATORS There is no Regulators If indeed there was these Casinos would be locked down.

Good and Bad

Wife is in a Power chair. She enjoys getting out. She plays a lot and almost always has four or five jackpots $500 or more. Just got back this last week. All the machines have been tightened up. We were there for 3 days and I saw maybe four or five people hit jackpots. We spent 3k on slots and never hit anything. This was our second time to the Winstar. First time was in May and wife hit four $500 jackpots. Was really disapointed this time. The hotel and guest services are great. The food is not. They have just opened a Panda express and a hamburger and hot dog place. Need to look at the food costs. You make money on the casino. Use the food and hotel to draw customers to the casino. players club is nice. Wife had enough points from last time for three day comp on our room. Rooms are very nice. Handicap rooms are very easy to get around in. Large showers , grab bars, lots of space to park her chair. Very nice. Need to work on the room rates on weekends. OUCH . Have some great shows and big names and still expanding. Loosen up the machines and fill the place up. Could be nice...

Rip Offfff

Something has happened to winstar. They have obviously changed the winning ratios on the machines. I have been a regular visitor for 2 years. On most visits last year I had play time. Now nothings pays. You only lose money. Especially the Money bags machines. Do not play them. RIP OFFFFF. The Indian casino has no regulation on pay off, and obviously the tribe has gotten greedy. I won't go back. They have lost a very generous customer.

I was happy

I really did not want to go here, but i did. I am used to las veags, but even in vegas lately it has cost a lot to play, and i wone very little (at slots). Living in Louisiana i often play at lake charles and shreveport. After my trip to Shreveport last month I had decided to stop going till I could go back to vegas. It was just no fun anymore. However, my wife had a birthday and I am now in dallas, so i thought i would take the 90 minute drive. We arrived at 9:30 Friday night. The place was packed (they had a concert that night), but thankfully most left soon. We played 12 hours, i never spent all of the $100 I took, but the main thing IT was FUN..reminded me of the good old days. You see it is fun for me even when others are winning, and many were getting hand paid by the staff. I haven't seen that in months. After 12 hours we were up to $500. We played all denominations, but both tired and hungry we left. Not only do i recommend this place. I am planning my next trip.. Downsides? Some dollars don't work in a few machines. I guess you need to take some $5's with you? And some of my tickets misprinted i had to go to the cashier. not a lot to eat there. you can get your own coffee/cokes,. I did see one drink girl I AM VERY HAPPY

Not too bad....

I have been going to Winstar since at least 2002, back when it was two sections and a buffet restaurant. I have never won more than $500 playing pretty much quarters. I usually take $200. I go mainly because I take my disabled mother who can't drive. She seems to do quite well there. She generally spends $600 to $1,000 each visit and usually plays $1 denoms. She usually comes home with half or more. She has won several $1,000 to $2,000 jackpots. many $500 to $1,000 jackpots. We go probably once a month.

I love the massive expansion and the fact they now serve alcoholic drinks even if they are quite expensive. It's nice to play a slot and have a Makers Mark and Coke to sip on. The food is OK. The buffet is not really worth the $15 or so it costs. I like the new mongolian and english pub quick service places.

It can get really busy on the weekends after 5 so parking can be rough. Since the major expansion there are more than enough slot machines. It hasn't always been that way.

I'd say that you would probably want to stay with Vegas or Shreve-Bo if you are looking to win. However if you are looking for an entertaining night an hour or so from DFW then this might be a good place to try out.

I have not been to Choctaw since the new casino opened but have heard it is nice too.

Choctaw casino and hotel

The new place is pretty but the atmosphere is a downer, also the place in Durant ok is surrounded by speed traps. I'd rather go to winstar and avoid the speeding tickets.can you imagine losing a couple of bucks then getting ticket to top it off.
