Cool place nice service
Slots are terrible
I've been to many casinos in my lifetime but Choctaw has the worst slot odds I have ever experienced. Machines are outdated. I consider Winstar to be much better. I won't be going back to Choctaw anymore. I'll save my money for Las Vegas. Free drinks, no ante and free and much better service.
Don't get the Sinking Feeling!
I been to thackerville less than a dozen times i lost thous and thous.I bet on all levels you can never win enough so you keep playing by time you know it you will be out a ton of cash. The slots let you win the small amounts and rarely let you win the larger amounts. There is smoke every where and people all over the place on the weekends. This is not a fun place if you can't win from the looks from the employees to the lack of gamesmanship from the slots payout. Keep away save your money or you will be sorry you ever got addicted to this place.
I had fun here.
I have only been to Winstar twice. The first time I dropped my neighbor off at this place. he talked me into spending 20 bucks at the most so I decided a minimal loss wont be so bad. I went in, walked around trying to observe how to play the slot machines. I picked one and stuck 20 dollars in it, hit max bet, won 10 free spin, and during that free spin series I won 100 bucks. I took my winnings and left while I sI took my winnings and left. I did not spend more than 20 minutes in the place during each visit and each time I walked out with more than what I put in. I did not play any tables games, but I did see them, they are there. I don;t know too much about the players club. The gaming atmosphere reminds me of chucky cheese with all the lights and bell sounds that gets you all excited. They do allow smoking inside the casino so you will smell like a cigarette factory when you leave the place. I didn't have any food but I did have a drink, (pepsi) it was very cold, crisp, and refreshing. Their machine was very well calibrated. best Pepsi EVER.
Winstar is awesome
I recently went to winstar casino last weekend 1/3/15. After reading all the reviews on this website I was a bit worried I would lose my money quick and be back on the road to Texas. I don't know who wrote all those reviews on this site but they are all wrong and when I say wrong I mean wrong. Winstar is a amazing casino resort. The gaming area is huge if you can't find a slot machine you like at there casino then you shouldn't gamble. I played all kinds of different slots lost on a few and won on a few, I read on here someone said they have never seen anyone win here. I personally saw at least 20 hand pays and that's me not even trying to see them. This casino is very fair for slots blackjack roulette poker whatever your game is. I won $900 on slots jumping all over the 8 different gaming areas. Overall though this casino is a nice place to spend a day or a weekend and eat some good food and gamble some money. I personally believe every other review on here is from people who go and lose. You can't win every time not at this casino not anywhere but overall very nice clean and fun casino to gamble at. This is the biggest casino in the United States as well it takes about 20 minutes to walk for end to end amazing place can't wait to go back. Also to this casino has class 3 slots as well as class 2. I won on both didn't notice to much of a difference.
Gambling problem or fixed slots?
The slots at all Oklahoma casinos are tight. I go to two Choctaw Duraant and Winstar Thackerville. I learned that all casinos on Indian land use Class II slots that is based on bingo, which means only certain machines are set to win---don't find the machines then you don't win.
Class III slots are used as well but are hard to find inside casinos.
With Class III machines numbers are generated randomly. The Class III machine use the random number generator or RNG. You have a chance to win fairly or lose fairly.
Mostly all tribal casinos have placed class II slot machines in their casinos. This means we lose, they win.
I used to have a good time winning and losing. Either way the casinos came out ahead but I had fun. Now, I might as well buy a new car or place my money with a legal investment firm. The casino is taking far too much--- another greedy industry!
I don'l like Winstar
Drop $1000 in losses and they won't even comp you a $12 lunch.
The game payouts are pathetic. Smoke filled. The buffet is no better than Golden Corral
Tired of buying some Indian a new truck and sending his kids to college and I especially don't like the fat lazy bald pit boss with glasses who thinks he's hilarious flirting with redneck women.
Overated Winstar Casino Money Taker
You can't win on the slot machines consistently if you win a hundred bucks or more just quit and move on to the next slot. Some of the slot machines very few you can win big on most of time you will lose no matter how much you bet.Put it this way if you have money play enough spins and get lucky enough you can win big or a decent amount but be prepared the majority of the time you will lose. Most of the people i talk while walking around the casino say the same thing they lose. The workers at winstar know most people don't win they can care less you're the dummy there gambling your life away.If you have a few bucks to spend going to winstar every once in a while isn't a bad thing just don't think you can turn a few bucks into a few thousand like me and others you will lose all your money the slot machines are tight and program the big amount and jot pot come every once in a while nothing is guarantee. Now i know why people quote winstar for having the tightest slot machines in the nation it only took me losing all my money there to find out.
my last visit
A friend of mine and I decided to go to winstar on a Thur. to have breakfast and play the slots. First thing we noticed was the parking lot was almost bare. We went directly to the bingo hall. No breakfast there. Asked around and finally found out it was in the dining room in the London section. Walking to breakfast we noticed that most of the slots were idle.
Talking about tight. We played a while. Got a few bonus rounds. But they never paid off. I played my 20 $1 bills on HOT SHOT FINZZY I got bonus plays but no money. I used to win all the time. I went home loosing my 20 - $1 I will try again in a couple weeks. Oh yea the players card is worthless.
I was told that the other Casino in Thackerville paid off better. The place was full and we did fair better. My 20 $1 worked like a charm. Good Luck. Rich
Rude, Rude and Rude
I have been going to Winstar since the beginning of Winstar. Back when it was just a tent on the side of i35. Back when they actually gave you comps, back when the dealers were nice to you because they were able to keep their tips, back before the major expansion and the change in behavior of the staff and management. What it boils down to is this, every time they send me coupons for a free room I call to reserve the room they act like I am an inconvenience to them, they are not friendly to me and they never, ever, ever, ever have a room, EVER! Like last night for instance, I approached the check in desk and asked with a smile on my face "what are the chances of there being any availability for this evening?". The woman says to me "So, you don't have a reservation"? and I said to her no, I do not, and she says "well, you'll have to go over to the vip desk". She was the least bit friendly to me, did not smile, and treated me as if I was an inconvenience to her, just like when I call them on the phone. So, I go across the room to the VIP desk, I stand at the Please wait here sign and I observe no other guest in this room, three employees looking like they are working so hard at something on their computers and again look at me as if "oh great, someone else who is going to ruin my night", finally the woman says to me can I help you, and I walked up with a big smile on my face and politely ask "what are the chances of me getting a room for tonight? She says, let me check and proceeded to type on her computer, she then says to me "I have a room available for $269.00", I asked if my rewards card will help with the price and she looks at me as if she was thinking to herself "just great. or you wish", and says to me "no, it doesn't change the price". So, I said let me call my wife and ask her if she wants the room. Of course my wife did not want to spend that much money for one night.
So, again I struck out on getting a room at Winstar World Casino and Resort. I swear, it's almost as if they do not want guest to stay at their hotel. Why on earth would they treat people so rudely when the people they are treating this way are there to spend their hard earned money in the casino? Had they given me a room last night I would have spent the entire night at the casino gambling. My wife would have stayed at the black jack tables until 4 am like she does when we are welcomed at the Horseshoe Casino in Shreveport Bosier City La. and I would have played the slots all night long. Why would they not want us to spend our money with them? We ended up playing cards, a few slots, ate dinner at Toby Keiths (cold food) bar and grill and then hit the road back home to Grapevine around 10:30 so we could be home by midnight. Had they given us a room we would just now be leaving the casino today by 11 am to be home by noon, not midnight. Winstar, you guys make me want to drive the 3 hours to the Horseshoe Casino so that I can feel like I am a welcomed guest, a valuable customer, someone who they treat with respect, just like you guys used to do back in 2004, back when you would at least give my wife and I a free meal to Stone Ranch, or a free Buffet, back when you guys acted like you cared about your customers. I feel now you have gotten too big for your own good and have forgotten who helped you get to the size that you are now in the first place, the Texans who live south of your Red River. I think next time I will drive east and cross the Red River into Shreveport
Winstar, Thackerville slot machines
I've been patronizing Winstar since it opened....in it's early years it was fun, machines paid out, lots of free stays, and I mean a lot. Now though it's become more tourist attraction than a casino. No more winning, and from my own experience when I use my players card, I lose my money faster than when I don't. I've tested this theory at least ten times, I've even pulled my card out of a machine and instantly started winning. A fluke? More than twenty times? The rooms used to be really nice, but of late, LaQuinta's rooms are nicer.
They constantly move the machines around....I get that, but it's annoying when you have to go all over the place to find the machines you prefer. Another thing that's annoying, you can call one day they tell you it's sold out, call back and you can get a room, it's all about who you get on the phone. Some of the staff are pleasant, nice, cordial, some are sticks in the mud, they resent you being there, but that's the reason they have a job.
I've won $3600, $1200, so you can win, but that was two years ago back to back on the same machine. These last two years, I'm just happy to leave breaking even. ...which is more the exception than the rule. Yes that's why it's called gambling.....my two cents based on my years at Winstar.
Oh yeah, the tables have been fair to good to me, no complaints there.
Save your money go to Vegas, These people at WinStar are terrible
no more buses no more me
Thought I would break down and go see what the effects were on stopping the bus transportation at winstar. They still serve a free breakfast to the seniors on wed. and thur. First thing I noticed was there were 1/3 less dinning for their free breakfast. The Second thing I noticed was the Players card was worthless. No more free play. The third thing I noticed was how tight the slot machines were. Yes you did get some bonuses but the pay out was poor. Just about everyone I asked how they were doing said no good. My friends and I decided not to go back until the buses started up again. I wouldn't mind paying a little more to ride the bus. Good luck
No more Bus rides
Sinse WinStar stopped running their bus routes. How many will stop going there? I will not go back until they get the buses going again. They will not lose money but not make as much. All they can do is tighten up the slots a little more.
I go to this casino once a month with the senior center and i do well. As far as room comps, I get them every month, but my wife passed away and I don't use them.
Slots set way too tight now
I have played here since the casino opened. Last year, I had the best year ever on the slots. I saw a LOT of people hitting large hand pay jackpots. Since about the first of November 2013, that has changed dramatically. I see very few hand pays and when I do, it's for right barely over the $1,200 threshold that requires a hand pay. Yes I'm not there every day, but I do go 2 to 3 times a week. In all, I have seen about 6 large payouts in the past 3+ months. I would see twice that many in an evening before this started.
I remember before, if you played one of the VGT $25 machines, and you got re-spin bonuses, you would hit a jackpot almost each time from $2,000 to $10,000. You're lucky right now on the re-spins if you get 2 cherries on a re-spin bonus. I heard 2 other ladies that pumped $1,000 into two $25 machines last time comment they both got jackpots. I went and looked and one was $1,250 and the other $1,325. That's VERY low for that machine. They both commented how low the casino has been paying out lately too.
I know quite a few of the "regulars" from the high stakes rooms have already quit going up here. I'm guessing they were tired of bleeding money for no chance of a return. WinStar needs to re-evaluate their reasoning behind their current practices before they lose a lot of their high end business. I'm not saying they need to pay big money to everyone that comes in but at least BE FAIR ABOUT IT.
For those that think they have no control over the way the machines pay, don't be so naïve and read a little from the machine manufacturers. Every machine in there is controlled by a computer system accounting program. They can set everything from the frequency of a bonus round to percentage of payout returns. The only thing they cannot do is change it while you are currently using it. Look sometimes and you'll find one that says "LOCKED BY ACCOUNTING". That means it's currently being updated with a change for better or worse and then it has to sit idle for a certain amount of time before it'll let you play it again.
Since I'm apparently on a rant, we'll never see casinos in Texas now that it has gotten to be so big in OK. The Indian nations pay BIG money to certain Texas senators and congressmen to keep them from EVER voting on a change in the law. Just check if you don't believe me. Every gambling bill for the past 8 years has DIED IN COMMITTEE. That's how they keep things from ever being voted on. Talk about corruption!
Happy gambling everyone!! :-)
No more Win at Winstar
I have been going to WinStar every month for several years. I have been playing on $1 machines and my wife plays on penny machines. We use to win quite a bit. But since the re-innovation some thing has changed NO More Win. I use to play $1 blazing sevens and use to hit a lot. No more all those machines have been tightened up. When we talk other people playing they also complaining the same thing. All Texas money is dumped there. We need a Casino in Texas. They know that we have no choice they have tightened the win.
Food is good, People are nice, verity of machines is huge good place for entertainment. But no good to play.
No room comps
Me and my wife, have been going to Winstar to play ever since it use to look like a green balloon tent. We use to be regulars at Bossier City LA. and could get a room Comp, in just about all the casinos over there. My wife loves going to Winstar, but got very disappointed with their room comps, as much as we play over there she recently called to ask if we could get a comp over night stay. That was a big negative they wanted to charge us $159.99 with our play. That is ridiculous for one night stay for players who play there every Friday night for years.
You know I've been going to Winstar now for over three years now. I think I got those old babies figured out. I win most everytime. Thats more than most can say. Now Here is what I do. I play mostly the three reelers you know the ones with three turning wheels. I go to the cashier and exchange a $20 for 20-$1. I start out on the 25c slots. Put $2 in no more. Play 8 rolls. If you don't hit go to the next slot. If you do hit play out your quarters and put another dollar in. If you hit over $25 put that slip in to your pocket and leave it there. I win around $25-200 most of the time. After I am ahead a little I have fun playing the other slots. I do lose once in a while but that is just $20. Try it. Let us know how you did. Chuck
The not so great Winstar World Casino
So the first thing I notice when I walk into Winstar on a saturday night is that the walk areas are too narrow for large crowds especially when Winstar is having a concert. And supposedly being over a mile walk from one end to the other this can pose quite a problem. But I would like to start with something positive by saying that the poker room is truly Winstar's best feature with many tables with various limits. On to the bad news... Winstar is really too focused on profit and not customer service. The only employees I found to be helpful were the poker and blackjack dealers. Although I was shocked by both the racks and 50 cent ante. It's next to impossible to get help with machines and while I was there I learned a few interesting things. Blackjack dealers aren't allowed to teach strategy or even offer even money. Also no surrender. And to be honest most of the money I lost on the blackjack tables was because of other players lack of strategy. Over all Winstar is a good place to drink over-priced alcohol and gamble if you don't want to drive to Shreveport or fly to Las Vegas. I hope someone at Winstar reads this and brings change. Even if it was better comps and no ante for rated players it would be a start. Just keep in mind the Indian casinos are just babies compared to Vegas. Despite the fact they refer to themselves as a sovereign nation.
Thanks richard I tried your ideas and man they work. Came out with over $1000.00. one other thing I did was stop using Players club card after using up all their money.
slots can pay off
My observation of the times I have been going to Winstar the last six months are as follows. Seems like the bigger winners over $300 are located in the middle of the line of machines. So play #3 and #4 in line. If there is an area that there are no people playing go for it. They got to get people working the empty machines. Stay away from bus pickup area. When you hit at a slot play it for 2 minuts and if you win keep playing it. If not move on. More gamblers win at the three reel slots than they do at the 5 reels. Think about it. After you have eaten your free breakfast go to the first slot machine you come to bet $2 you will win. Every time you win a nice pot put the valcher into your pocket and don't use it. Good luck
The days are numbered
I would never go to this casino if it was not for the fact that it is the closest casino to the DFW area. I have played at many casinos throughout the United States being a Caesars Seven Star member( seven star is how a casino should treat you) saying this I always believed in getting a players card for i saw all the benefits it gives you playing at the Horseshoe. Don't bother getting one at Winstar. You could drop $5,000 in the casino and they would not even comp you a buffet. If you are thinking about playing and getting serious if is worth the money to go ahead and head to Shreveport for the evening or get a plane ticket and fly to Las vegas for you at least have a chance of winning enough to pay for your trip. If you're just looking for a good time with your wife or friends and want to go out and drop a few hundred and drink some cold beer and watch a game then Winstar is a good option. Just don't expect to win because you wont.
Really don't know about the hotel for i have never been offered a room for less than 200 dollars, but what i hear is it's not worth the money.
I can only say that when Texas makes it legal to gamble and the casinos open up in DFW (which they will) then the Winstar will be a big Super 8 hotel in the middle of nowhere. So they can keep on building more hotels out there but the day is coming that we will all get the last laugh.
They do not care about the players. They provide bad service time after time. About once a month the ticket system crashes and it takes 2-3 hours to pay people and they do not care when that happens.
Jackpots take at least an hour to pay on average. Unless you are in the high limit room then it is faster.
If a slot breaks down good luck getting someone to fix it, and when they do enjoy their bad attitude.
Hotel, it is not much better and a super 8. Very low quality. If you want a nice room head to Durant.
Cashiers hate working. Most of the time I get torn or damaged bills. If you want to give change to round up a ticket you get an attitude, and some refuse to take pennies to round up a ticket. I mean I understand not wanting to take hundreds of pennies from one person or cashing in a bunch of change but to refuse taking 4 pennies so I do not have to carry around an extra 96 cents is crazy!
I plan on gaming elsewhere. It is worth a longer drive to get better service. If you want a crazy large casino and bad service then Winstar is the place for you! If you are serious about enjoying a quality visit to a casino then look elsewhere!
I live in a 55 and older community. The Winstar bus picks us up at the community center two times a month. There are about 50 of us on the bus. They charge us $10 to ride the bus to Winstar. We have a fun trip there and back. They give us a free breakfast and offer us Player club members get $25 playing money.
Seems like every time I go the person next to me hits a nice jackpot. But never me. Havent figured it out yet. I get 20 $1 from the cashier go on my merry way. By the time I get the $20 spent I start on the $25 I get from the Players Club.
I have tried playing the slots down the line. I was told that the three ring machines are the best way to go. But not for me. The attendance are of no help. You ask them to point out some slots that are paying they act dumb. Seems like they would want to see me win a little but no.
Someone told me to play the machines that are noticeable to others the most like up by the cashiers. Food courts. But not me. Video Poker is the best way to win at slots. Not me.
Going back home we talk about our experience. 9 out of 10 lose. The best thing about the trip is the free breakfast.
Will here I sit waiting for the bus to come and take me to the reservation to get scalped.DgR
The Slots DO Pay...
My wife and I have been going every weekend for about 3 months now after going maybe once every other month the past few years. I have seen many hand pays on the $5 and up machines, and some on the $1 ones.
Just yesterday we were next to a guy getting his $5100 hand pay on a 3 credit $5 slot (the Fish-themed one). The weekend before a lady hit the largest jackpot on a 5x$1 and got $12,500, which attracted quite a crowd. And we've hit $2400 twice in the last two months on a $5 Money Bags machine. The general rule is if it's not hitting on at least a cherry/lucky duck/etc. within 10 spins then wait 5 minutes and/or try another machine. It seems to go in streaks.
That being said, I have also watched people dump over $3,000 into the same machines and walk away empty handed. At $5-$15 a spin it doesn't take many "empty spins" to burn through some real money. You have to commit to "loss floor" and perhaps more importantly, a "win ceiling". The $5100 winner from the other day easily gave back $1000 while waiting on his payout!
That being said, I still don't trust the bingo-based machines but in the end they seem to pay as good or better than truly "random" slots. It helps to know that you are playing for a pool of 'prizes' against other players, so there seems to be an optimal balance between having enough people playing to build up the "cash pool" but not so many that your chances of getting the 'prize' is minimized.
Winstar might be tight but it's definitely not impossible. If you're just looking for the fun of playing, 25 cent slots are the way to go... but they rarely pay big. Don't get me started on 200 credit per spin penny slots...
So about the casino itself...
- It's very nice inside and I like the themed areas.
- The beer/alcohol specials make drinks reasonably priced, but the measured pours and high prices are disappointing.
- We like the pizza and burger joints. Toby Keith's is really pricey for the quality of the food, but they have good drink specials.
- Customer service? Ha! I usually have to track down an attendant if the paper is out.
- Comps? Ha! You'd think we would get more than a free weekday stay at Roach Motel next door with our play.
good and bad
I have been playing there 6-8 months. I won $5000 on a bar video poker machine labor day weekend, so I can't say winning is impossible. I did manage to give it all back over our next 3 trips. Probably $1000 down on the year (have to check win/loss statement) They seem to have tightened up during the remodel, can't play half as long for the money. They do have a superior selection of slots. Most will give up $100 jackpots once in a while, but will take it all back if you keep playing. Video poker is up and down, but odds tables are tight.
Bar prices are outrageous, wont waste money on $5 beers and $7 drinks. Buffet is good but service is slack and lines are long. They bus tables way too slow and seat single people in a booth set up for 4. New restaraunts will have to be run better to get my money.
Toby Keith's is the best place there, well worth a visit (I don't think it's run by Winstar). Good food, prices and service. Never played the tables so can't say one way or another.
The players club is really tight with comps. I spend $1000 every time I go there, sometimes more, my wife spends half of that and I use her card to keep up her points...but after 6 months with a visit each month she still didnt rate a comp room on the weekend and I was only offered area hotels for Fri. Sat. we come and stay 2-3 days and drop $2000 you would think they would want us back...she gets coupons for $5-$10 free play and no other offers...I get $15-$25 and a free buffet as my incentives. We didn't come one month because we went to Vegas instead and our comp offers all but disappeared. I was told that you are tracked by how often you come, how much you gamble, how long you gamble, average bet and many other factors and if and when you hit the magical tier, they will have a host get in touch with you, you can't get a host any other way. This is what the snarky host I managed to get hold of told me.
Screw them, we went to Vegas 3 times last year and places we gambled a few hundred in send us better offers. We will save our money for Vegas, where comps are easy, beer is free while playing, and there is enough competition to keep casinos from ripping off their players to buy more casinos, remodel the existing casino and build more hotel rooms...I hope they finish their hotel improvements and nobody comes...even for free.
Winstar pure greed !
We have given that patron robber a chance several times , but shall never go back . I used to think the American Indians had lots of character , but that wonderful trait has somehow vanished . I never thought I would see my people ( I am mostly American Indian ) fall to this level of greed and mistreatment of our fellow man . It is heartbreaking to see all of the people going to Winstar with some
" hope " and leaving with nothing but disappointment . It should be closed down by losing all of the public support until they can face reality and share as they should . I have heard that they have purchased Diamond Jacks Casino in Shreveport which we have frequented for years . We shall probably bring those visits to a halt now as well . To all " hopeful " patrons --Stay Away Stay Away Stay Away ! We can collectively shut them down and we should as a public service !!!
Save your money -go to vegas
Just save your money, fly to Vegas. Lots of slots, very meager payouts. Food is so-so. Customer service is horrible.
WILL NEVER GO BACK TO WINSTAR !!
I have been going to Winstar for years. Payouts OK, but enjoyed playing the slots. Last November, the slots changed for some reason; I believe Winstar changed the slots to server based. Reels would go on FOREVER before they stopped; some reels looked like they were going to stop and then started up again, but the worst part was lack of payouts. On the Double the Devil machine, hitting 5 devils would net you $80 plus 60 free spins, usually $500-$700. After November, I've only hit 5 devils once and won a whopping $135 (remember, you automatically get $80) so I only won $55 on 60 free spins. Other machines also feel 'tightened". Question: are all of the machines at Winstar server based now?? Meaning, they could/did change the payouts after their remodel over the past 9 months. I will NEVER, EVER to back to LOSERstar. I live in Texas and 98% of the cars in the parking lot are generally from Texas. And Texas: don't hold your breath to get "legalized" gaming in Texas (ie: Lotto, 8-liners for "Amusement Only"; The Chickasaw Indian Nation was the 7th largest contributor to Gov. Perry's campaign in 2010, and as long as he is the Gov, he will not allow a referendum to the residents of Texas to vote on potentially legalizing gaming. Also, $5 for a Shiner- give me a break!!
