Vicksburg is one of the most historic cities in the South and is most famous for its National Military Park where 17,000 Union soldiers are buried. The Park is America’s best-preserved Civil War battlefield and you can take a 16-mile drive through the 1,858-acre Park on a self-guided tour. In the Park you can also see the U.S.S. Cairo, the only salvaged Union Ironclad. Admission to the Park is $8 per car and allows unlimited returns for seven days.
There are about 12 historic homes in Vicksburg that are open to the public for narrated tours. Admission prices are $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Some of the homes also function as Bed and Breakfasts and rooms can be rented for overnight stays.
