The latest revenue figures by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board – released earlier this month – show casinos and betting generated $479.3 million in May 2023.

Quick Notes

  • Gambling Revenue Increases by 7%
  • Online Casinos Set its Second Highest Record
  • Online Casinos in New Jersey Grow at a Similar Rate

The latest revenue figures show an overall increase of 7% compared to last year. However, breaking down the numbers and seeing that online casinos contribute the most to continued growth is fascinating.

While the state’s gambling industry is up, slots have grown by only 3%, recording $210.9 million in May 2023 compared to $205.6 million in 2022. Tables games, on the other hand, show a decline of 8% as May 2023 accumulates to $81.6 million compared to the $88.5 million of last year.

Therefore, apart from sports betting – contributing growth of 17% compared to last year – only iGaming remains. In May 2023, online casinos set their second-highest record, exceeding the $170 million mark for the second time this year, after the current record of $181.5 million from March 2023.

Online casinos in the state won $170.4 million in May 2023, a remarkable $33.6 million increase over the $136.8 million in May 2022.

Pennsylvania currently generates the most revenue of all the legal online casino states in America. However, its neighbor, New Jersey, reveals similar trends in growth, having set its highest record in March 2023 as well. NJ Revenue in May 2023 also set the second-highest record for the state, winning $161.4 million.
