Lost it all again

Been to dejope or dejoke many times in the last few years. Never won a dime. I spent over 5k in there over the last couple years. Nobody in this entire world could have that much bad luck. I hear it's cheaper to pay the fine than it is for them to pay out prize money. sure they will tell you how much they paid out in the last year. Is it even close to what they are supposed to ? Well money's gone. just saying

Not what I call a real casino

I have been to Ho Chunk of Madison on quite a few occasions. I hate the machines. I don't like the fact you have to get a bingo in order to win. And, most of them if you get a bingo, there is still no payouts. I wish all the machines would have a standard bingo payout board. Not all the machines pay for regular bingos. When you think you should have won, you don't . This really sucks. I understand Madison will not pass to have a real casino there. The machines are so tight. But then again, I have noticed that Ho Chunk of Baraboo is doing the same thing. Tightening machines. I have spoken to many of people that I know that is a player member and all of us have had even our lousy $5.00 meal ticket taken away from us. Our promos have dropped. That is why I don't go as much as I use to. When you lower or take away a promo, you lose people. I am also disappointed in the food service there. I went one time for the breakfast. I ordered my food and waited. When a 1/2 hr passed and I saw people that came in after me were getting their food, I asked what was going on. I had some cashier person get rude with me. I can tell you, I held nothing back when she started raising her voice. I could have been meaner, but still have my dignity. When I asked her if that was my food sitting there on the tray, she said, I told you, your order is not ready yet. Then she started doing those stupid hand signals like, talk to the hand bull crap. She also told me, well, if you would have came in earlier. What that was suppose to mean was beyond me. I did call Ho Chunk of Madison to complain about her and the guy said, what is it that you want? I told him, Nothing. It was almost as if he did not care. And he calls himself a supervisor. HUH. And the people saying it is dirty? They are right. I have had many of sticky machines, full waste baskets, empty glasses all over, full ashtrays. It is disgusting. I do like the one in Baraboo even though they are tight too. So all in all. I do not go as much because of all this. Maybe if they fix things, I will go more often.

I Don't Like The Place

I've gone to this Casino more than fifty times and walked out a winner four. I've bet big and small losing more than $700 on one trip without getting a bonus (Lion Slots). These slots are unbelievably tight, it's too bad I have gambling problem. Don;t waste your money here if you can help it. On average I lose about $100 for every hour i'm there. You have a better chance planting a $100 and growing a money tree than winning big at this casino..

Not bad, if you enjoy slowed-down play and go at t

This small casino offers only bingo-play slots. You either love them or hate them. If you enjoy fast play, they are a nuisance. But if you want to extend your play, they slow you down while offering you a little more excitement. You can see a bingo line hit and know you've "won" something before the reels stop. And the more frequent players inevitably notice - and begin looking for - a very faint flash in the bingo card just after you "daub" that indicates (most times) you are about to hit a bonus round on that spin. It may appear to be a glitch in the system, but it's likely programmed in to make the games more addictive.

Since last spring (2011) the slot payouts have been tightened up, especially on a few of my previous favorite machines. Yet I'm convinced that your chances are better here than any casino in Illinois and most of the others in Wisconsin. Just avoid the single line three reel $1 machines (Money Tree, Wheel of Fortune, etc) like the plague - recently they almost never hit, and you will see entire banks of them empty of players because people have learned this the hard way. Also choose the time you go there carefully. At times of low activity, the machines will stall "waiting for more players". There are times when the entire casino goes ice cold, and other times when it seems someone is getting a hand pay every other minute. It almost seems the more players there, the less likely you are to hit any decent jackpot. I am convinced the worst time to visit statistically is Friday or Saturday night between 7pm and midnight. I believe the bingo slots are a form of parimutual betting and the more people are there, the more spread out the payouts have to be - especially if those players are making small bets. It seems that very late when there are fewer players you will hit more bonus rounds, but they won't pay well (what I call "bogus rounds").

There are a few other minor irritations about this casino. Every time I've been there between 11pm and 1am, security makes the rounds through the entire casino, closing down groups of machines to extract the money from them. So they'll kick you off your machine. You'll move to another area, and they'll kick you off again. Why don't they wait until 3 or 4am when no one is there? Also, seemingly every employee carries around a walkie talkie which emits the most irritating loud squalk at regular intervals. I honestly don't know how it does not drive them insane listening to these things day after day. I have asked a few employees standing around near me to leave because I just can't stand the noise.

Getting Better All the Time

I went to DeJope in Madison this Wednesday and Thursday with my sister and we were thoroughly impressed again. I've been playing for a few months but my sister has been playing for over two years, and we both agreed this was some of the best customer service we had seen in any casino, Vegas or otherwise, let alone a Wisconsin casino. They seem like they keep making small changes to make the people who come back happier. Wouldn't it be a perfect world if they all did that.

Promotions are looking up. We got $5 for free on the card on Wednesday, and then $25 more for earning a few points. If you didn't want to play max bet you didn't have to, it just took you a little longer to earn. Finally a casino gets it. Thursday, we waited around and entered the drawing for HDTVs and $200. Most people only got one ticket in the drum, and it wasn't even close to full. Maybe a few hundred tickets in there, good odds for a dozen people to win. That was exciting.

It's kind of funny how there is a "light side" and a "dark side" in the casino, non-smoking and smoking. I personally like a darker atmosphere, and their lights in the smoking section are subtle and change colors and all sorts of cool stuff. I don't know how many people who read this have been to Potawotami in Milwaukee, but before you become acquainted with that casino, you have NO IDEA where to find a soft beverage. There's one soda and coffee stand in the whole place. You have to get up on your hind legs and try to steamroll an employee over to get a soda. There's gotta be at least 5 or 6 dispensers at Ho Chunk in Madison and it's only one floor compared to Potawotami's desert of desperation. There are a few places that are pretty far away from the sodas in the back of the casino, and at first this summer I didn't see many hosts out with drinks, but that too has changed. Those guys seem to bring the luck with them when they walk around with the free coffee cart.

That's another point: fresh games. You won't have the new line of Zeus slots at this casino because it is a Class 2 casino (although they keep one or two early Zeus slots in the smoking section still). On the flip side, this casino has a lot of different styles of games you wouldn't see just 45 minutes down the road at the Dells. Things you've never heard of or seen before. The 'scatter left to right' free spins Cadillac Jack games are everywhere in this casino, so I like playing those against other players. A few big $1,000,000+ progressive jackpot games are flashy and fun, but expensive.

Another aspect of DeJope is that it's still a little bit smaller than the Dells or Potawotami, so the customer service is heads and shoulders above the rest. I always wait in line in the Dells just to check my card. I'd be hard pressed to wait 2-3 minutes in line in Madison. Their staff up at the counter nowadays treat you like you're at a 4-star hotel. Quick, easy, and always helpful. They laugh at you at other places if you ask them to follow you and bring an attendant to your machine, or they are sitting down behind glass. Nope, not at DeJope. You might have to wait a minute, but it's worth it.

I guess the best way to put it is that DeJope got a makeover. I hope they get a hotel and work as much as they can with the community and players that support them.

Great Place to Visit

This is one of the greatest casinos we have ever visited. Their customer service is outstanding especially their cashiers--very friendly and can make you feel at home. They are always ready to help you. The games are fun to play and the atmosphere is just right. They had a band the night we visited and it was really a good band and lighted up the place a lot (a little too loud for my taste but that's just my opinion). Will got back again and again. Don't let others here tell you different it is a wonderful place to visit and play. Just remember if you are not sure how to play bingo machines go to their customer service desk and they will be glad to show you how to play them. Thanks for the great time and fantastic customer service.

Time for a change?

I guess I feel the same about most of the comments here. I've been to Dejope many times and I do not understand why
I go back! It used to be where you could go with fifty bucks and play all night, now you're lucky if you haven't gave them fifty bucks in a 1/2 hour. There is plenty of different games, but it's just not a fun place to be; it's almost like they are just waiting for you to put your money in and leave broke. Depressing atmosphere! It is dark & gloomy there; I've been to many casinos and they are not like that. Maybe I need to find somewhere else to go! Shame on me if I don't.

Never going back...

Let me preface this with: I've only been to Vegas once, and played one electronic poker game there. That's the extent of my gambling experience. I have lived in Madison for the past nine years and always passed the casino when driving to visit family in Chicago. I went to Dejope with some relatives this past weekend after having bought the Groupon for $25 for the players club card and $10 for the grill.
The good: I thought the customer service was wonderful. I have an elderly cousin who needed a wheelchair, and security was there for her in minutes. In fact, she hurt herself and the staff was prompt about getting her bandaged and resettled in the wheelchair. The Guest Services desk staff was friendly and helpful with my questions about what the Players Club thing was (again, never really gambled). The cashier at the grill was friendly and helpful.
The Bad: The place took my $25 in about 20 minutes. I also had to dig around for $1 in change, which I got turned into paper $ at the cashier, because my $25 PlayersClub card had to be activated with real money first! I never knew I had to spend more than what I paid for the Groupon! What if I hadn't had my change purse and had to use an ATM just so I could get $1 to play my $25? Lame. The slots are boring. They take your money in a little feeder (I was imagining a bucket of quarters that I could feed in). The Bingo they advertize is just some little screen on top of the slots. At least they had a lot of machines with different values.
The Ugly: So, for some, this isn't so bad. But I had no idea that Dejope was a dry casino. I had hoped to use my $10 Grill card from the Groupon towards after dinner drinks (the cousins and I went out for dinner beforehand). Instead, alcoholic drinks aren't served there, non-alcoholic drinks are free, and nobody wanted any more dinner or dessert since we had just come from a restaurant. In Madison of all cities, not having even beer or wine was a let down. Overall, I don't like slot machines and can find better things to waste my money on. Maybe I'll play those little slot games they have at some bars. Then I could have beer while losing my money. Don't be too hard on the staff, though, they were very helpful.

losing it all

hi.me and my wife have been going to Dejobe for 4 yrs now. I remember back before the changes they made to all the cadillac jack machines we used to win most of our money back, and then some. Now, this year we have won nothing. We have spent thousands there, but now we see the big picture. Spend it on the lottery, the payoffs have better odds. They have lost one of their best customers and I am sure they will lose more down the road. So if you read this note. DON'T GO TO ANY CASINO THAT HO CHUNK OWNS, HAVE A GREAT DAY FOLKS. signed the johnsons

This place ought to be shut down

I have been gaming at DeJope since February, and have come as often as a few times a week from a small town a half hour away. I spoke with a manager about my table game comp points from ho chunk in the dells being erased as soon as I signed up for the rewards club at dejope, the day it started. this was on halloween i spoke to the manager and he must've thought I was naive. It took him 30 minutes to print out an audit of my play that only went back to january (most of my table play had been from the year before due to being in school out of state), and had the nerve to argue with me. Ho chunk dells pointed me to ho chunk madison, and now madison pointed me back to the dells. i asked him if he could replace potentially 50-100 bucks worth of comps with even 20, or even 5 dollars in comps, and he refused. i had come from 2 counties over to play that day and I did not spend a dime. it was the most depressing halloween i have ever seen. you could hear people in the bathrooms really really angry about how the promotions are a slap in the face to loyal customers. as a young player who has lost over $2000 in a few months according to my coin in and coin out on my audit, to be refused a $5 comp just about gave me a heart attack. terrible service, i actually like the food at the gamer's grille but nobody there cares about their job... one or two of the girls do. I want you to know that people are not naive, and just because they walk away doesn't mean you've done your job successfully. This manager had the nerve to keep me waiting for an hour and basically call me a liar, and then tell me to have a nice day. I'm horrified that I gave my money to this place.

Come to Dejope, where 50 free spins at $1/spin could earn you $20!!!! it happens to me all the time. don't give this place your money until you see better posts. Like I said, it is cutthroat out there, and I want to cry when i see young, old, depressed, crazy people walk out of that place in a daze, likely penniless. I have NEVER left DeJope at a profit in 6 months, about ~50 sessions. no mailers. no rewards. it's sad.

Yes, it's pretty bad

After reading the reviews AFTER I went to this place, I think one of two things... Either the positive reviews are from workers or owners, or the folks have never been to a true quality casino.

Beverage carts? They must have all been on break the 2 hours I was there with my wife.

Food? Barely passable diner fare.

Service? Just OK.

They do the best they can with what they have it seems, but they don't have much and it all results to mediocrity.

And being retired, yes, we have been to many casinos all over the continent (Including Canada).

Not Nearly As Bad As People Say

Take all the reviews here with a grain of salt. I go there at least once a month, and DeJope is exactly what you'd expect from a smaller slots-only casino in Wisconsin.

First off, these are slot machines. If you're playing a slot machine with the expectation of winning, good luck finding a casino in Wisconsin for you. You'll lose more than you'll win at DeJope, but you'll find that anywhere...otherwise the casinos wouldn't be open. There are many times when I have walked away many hundreds of dollars to the good here, and there are many other times when I ended up a hundred or two in the negative. It's gambling for a reason.

The slot machine selection is decent. It's not as nice as you'll find at the larger casinos, but there's enough variety to keep you amused for a few hours. These are bingo slots, some people don't like them so be warned. I actually like them more as they naturally play slower than regular slots, meaning the money will last a little longer.

Admittedly, the machines aren't the highest quality. Oftentimes when I'm there, I'll have a ticket or $20 bill jam in the machine. It usually takes a few minutes for someone to come help you with these problems, but they're never rude about it. In the rare occasions I've had a machine malfunction, they always fix it. I had a winning spin that didn't count for me once, they paid me out the money. I had a machine with free spins freeze up once, they got it working and I got my free spins. They're not perfect, but they make it right.

They have soda machines everywhere in the building, which is nice. No alcohol. The place does get busy some nights making the slot selection slim. The people I have run into have all been friendly. They do have food there, it's hit or miss. Some things are really good, others are like school cafeteria food.

Players Club is the same as any other Ho Chunk casino.

All in all, it's not a bad casino. You just have to remember that it's all slots, meaning you're looking at probably 80-85% payback, which means much more losing than winning. If you're in the Madison/surrounding areas, it's worth the trip. If you live closer to another larger casino, I probably wouldn't skip past that one to come to DeJope.

Wow. These "reviews" are baffling.

So, I guess they have a "non-existent beverage service", despite constantly seeing people walking around with a cart full of whatever kinds of soda you like and numerous machines if you wish to get your own soda. Supposedly the payouts are bad, despite a friend winning $1,200 on a twenty cent bet, my brother winning $900 on another trip, I've won about $500 from just two trips there, my aunt has won at least $100 each trip there, if not two or three hundred on some occasions. So yet again, false reviews from people I'm not sure have actually been there.

The atmosphere is perfect for a smaller casino, it's in the middle of nowhere practically, how much more can you ask for? Hop on a plane and go to Vegas if you want all of the glitz and glamor of that city. Every employee I've seen has been very friendly, whether just walking around making sure things were working alright or even chatting it up with a fellow employee.

I had an issue with a machine a few trips ago and if I had read these dreadful "reviews" before going, I would have expected to lose a limb or two asking for help. What actually happened? Friendly as could be about it. The woman did her best to get the machine up and running again, tried for at least ten minutes and couldn't get it up and running again. So she called her boss over and when it was certain they wouldn't be able to get it up and running again anytime soon, they had me fill out a form and told me if need be, they would get the money back to me in a few days (had about $80 in the machine). They apologized for the inconvenience and the best part? Probably an hour later, the machine was fixed and I had my ticket/money back, it turned out that something just needed to be changed in the machine.

So in closing, I'm not sure if any of these people have actually been to DeJope or if they have, it's just people upset because they don't know how to gamble. If you are losing money like crazy, try lowering your bet a little, don't complain about the payouts being bad because you are dumb enough to keep betting a dollar or more a bet.

If it has to do with no alcohol, well, that's your own problems that you need to take care of (I suggest AA). A little research will show you this isn't your typical casino (the ads even say A LITTLE BIT of Vegas, right here in Madison, meaning you get some of the experience, not everything you dolts.) with booze, every card game imaginable and so on. But of course, that would make any of these "reviews" beyond irrelevant, so why do research when you can be as lazy as these people giving their "reviews" (I keep putting reviews like that because these are reviews in the..well, let's just the lowest common denominator form)? Please check this place out, it deserves all the business possible.

I gave the "table games" a 1 solely because they don't have any and you have to give everything a rating. A bad rating system.

A little vegas? how about a whole lot of nothing.

I fell for the TV ads and found... a whole lotta nothing. Food service was horrible, the food itself was barely passable diner fare.

The "bingo" slots are "ok" but that's all they have, are slots. No tables, no real slot machines. Low payouts too. I can get the same kind of slot entertainment and better payouts at the local bar! Plus the people are friendlier!

Staff was generally unfriendly overall, from greeting to security to the non-existent beverage service. I even heard one employee at the guest services counter argue with somebody over the wording of a coupon! Apparently the coupon had no expiration date but the "promotion" being run ended the day before. One day? are you kidding me?

Bland food + poor customer service + poor payouts + a promise of a little bit of vegas = a whole lot of nothing.

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY

Like the BOWELS of hell! We tried the place and while most just complain about payouts because they spend money they dont have this place is a PIT! Dark, gloomy and just outright hellish. Self serve drinks from a fountain no service just an abusive and legal way to steal your hard earned cash. Yes pay outs were absolutely terrible but there was no entertainment value what so ever and no ambiance.

Seems like Wisconsin casinos are all absolutely licenses to steal. We are hoping that Kenosha gets it right. People will gamble but also enjoy responsible gaming and one of these days the tribes are gonna stop ripping people off and realize that on an incremental basis they will gain more monies and profits by volume which will only come form those that are not afraid to give something back and offer some level of service for people monies.

There is in my opinion a huge opportunity for a Casino to own the gaming market in WI but it will be the one that understands this post. We talk to people who like to game and all are fed up and will no longer spend their hard money at these ripoff parlors. T

he Dejope is though by far one of the worst I have ever seen. We only go about twice a year and the only casino that we have ever even broken even at and had some fun was Oneida and even they are slipping. Slots are getting worse and worse. Less bonus games and very rarely any meaningful bonus payouts. Someone needs to step up to the plate with this as their marketing plan and I am almost certain they will reap big rewards.

long wait

They say they are like Vegas but you have to wait 10 minutes to get your coat hung up and wait to get your coat - very annoying. I asked a worker to get someone because my money got stuck in the machine and he ignored me. Maybe if they paid people a decent wage they would have good workers. The cheeseburger is very good in the restaurant.

Dejope - The Loser's Dive

This place has been a mess since its inception. Part of the Ho-Chunk family (Ho-Chunk casino, Majestic Pines, etc.) Dejope can not be classified as a 'casino' based on legal technicalities -- the reason for the annoying bingo game played in the upper corner of the 'slot' machine.

While one soon gets used to the bingo, one never gets used to losing their shirt due to the appalling low payouts. Regarding the 'little bit of Vegas right here in Madison,' these ads are the most ludicrous I've ever seen for any product, place, or service. Table games are non-existent, so if you're looking for a quick game of Blackjack or Poker, you'd better head elsewhere.

Service at Dejope is extremely poor: a slew of mostly unfriendly, non-smiling, obviously unhappy employees are what you will usually see here. Their restaurant personnel appear totally clueless and if you need a soda, you'd better plan on getting it yourself, as there is seldom a person there who serves beverages while you are gaming. (Not a big deal, perhaps, but it would be nice once in a blue moon).

Another word of warning: make sure you have cash on hand before coming to the casino. Nearly every single time I've been to Dejope, their ATM machines are 'out of order' which will force you to go through the hassle of writing a check or using a credit card. If you have a 'craving' to gamble, then Dejope might be the place for you. Otherwise, avoid it like the plague.
