Misleading their customer
This casino just recently stopped allowing bonus points on all video poker machines. The interesting thing is they aren't letting their customers know this up front. Saw that points were adding up much slower than normal and asked some workers about it. They put their heads together and finally remembered they recently excluded video poker from point multipliers. When asked if they posted anything or let players know, they said "only if someone asks". This place use to be pretty generous to their players but sadly is now becoming extremely greedy and taking away the good things that made them better. Time to find a new casino to play!
Actually a great place to have fun!
I'm an avid gambler and I enjoy the time I spend gambling. I love it when I get the chance to win but I am also a reasonable person who understands r.n.g. , payback percentage, and probability. I say that because I think most people forget about those things when they hit a multiple trip losing streak. We have all been there and it sucks but it isn't always the casinos fault or tight slots sometimes it's just bad luck and therefore should not warrant a negative review.
Meskwaki is an amazing place with a great players club, a huge slot selection, 24 hour pool, multiple bars, a vast collection of table games, a solid bingo hall, and hundreds of affordable hotel rooms. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The security does a great job without making you feel unwelcome. It's a great environment to relax and have some fun.
This casino is by far the best in Iowa. The players club has 4 levels (basic, gold, platinum, and elite). It only takes 2000 points to become a gold member and the benefits are amazing! 59 dollar hotel rooms sun-thur, 15% discount almost everywhere in the casino, 2 free rooms a month, invitations to vip events, comp dollars are earned by just playing your favorite games and then can be used for drinks, food, cigarettes, pretty much anything in the casino minus gambling, and 5 cents off per gallon of gas.
The 24 hour pool is a big plus in my book. I am quite a night owl and being able to hit the pool at 4am after a late night of slots is such a luxury. The buffet isn't anything to write home about and like most buffets some of the food is quite awful. They have a nice little cozy side room for betting on the horse races. It's a warm inviting space full of comfortable chairs and flat screen televisions. If bingo's your thing I'm sure you already know hands down the best hall in Iowa is at meskwaki. With computers that play for you and more special games then you could shake a stick at with amazing value to boot (1 dollar for a 1199 dollar payout)! On top of all that they offer a very fair payback on there slots, much better then riverside and the isle in waterloo in my opinion.
Some people gamble for the wrong reasons and some people just have bad luck, but if you're out to have some fun and relax while you gamble you have to check out meskwaki!
Keep an open mind and know when to quit!
Terrible slots , Go anywhere else!
I shredded my players card today! This place has to have the worst slot payouts in Iowa. Even for an Indian casino. I understand from a friend that they
are trying to recover the cost of recent renovations from the slots. Whatever the reason you will not be happy here .
Was Better Before
Mesquaki has been my casino of choice for 2 years. No more! They did pay some back on slots at first. It seems now you get nothing back for $300 in. Really? It was fun at one time.
unfriendly and undesireable
The the Meskwaki security staff made it impossible to feel welcome and it felt like I was entering a prison instead of a casino, especially when they followed me throughout lobby for an unusual length of time. I tried to enjoy my casino experience with a card game in the poker room, but the floor person perpetuated the cold inhospitable prison like domain with his unfriendly commands when he directed me to my seat. I ignored his poor manners and went to play poker. When I was finished at the poker table, I made my way to the lounge in the inside the poker room. To my surprise, I was integrated by a poker dealer proding at me as to why I was watching TV instead playing poker. Again, I ignored the staff's inhospitable customer service, and contiue to mind my own business. After I had my fill of unfriendly and inhospitable casino staff, I could not bear anymore and left. I would recommend that you unfriend Meskwaki Bingo & Casino because they have no business to be called a casino. It is more like an instituion run by abhorrent staff.
Had a Strange Experience Here
I won $12,000 on 11-05-11 and decided to wait for that payout before i played another machine. While waiting for my payout a machine technician walked up to my machine paused, said nothing to me and moved to the middle of the high stakes room and stood there. I received my payout and moved to a different machine, inserted my money and the first play on max credits the machine tilted. I waited for the attendant to reset the machine removed my money and went to another machine. I did notice the machine tech was still in the room at a location that he could still observe my play. I inserted my money in a different machine, first pull and the machine tilted again. I was very surprised that the machine tech did not come over to check out the machine, he stood in the middle of the room and let the attendant reset the machine. This happened to me on the third machine without the tech talking to me at all. Before i hit the $12,000 I played for 8 hours and not a single machine in the room tilted, and people played all the machines that tilted on me prior to me playing them with no problems. I decided to leave the casino and I don't want to return to this casino again.
My husband and I just returned from a trip to Mesquaki...... The slot return is absolutely awful. We had to have our suitcases out of the room by 7:00 a.m. Just what we wanted to do after being up late in the casino. They can't seem to keep up with the rooms so want you to check out early. They cut back the play money and gave us a free breakfast buffet. The buffet was decent but not enough help so you had a long wait for drinks. We were there last October and had a marvelous time.. Since then it has really gone downhill and we don't plan on taking a trip there until things improve.
Casino invested over 110 million dollars for renovation and they have rolled back payout percentages to cover the latest investments. Player comp pays 1 penny on every dollar spent. I have gambled here for over 10 years and this is the worst payout that I have seen from the casino. Go to the Isle in Waterloo or riverside casino as they are both rated higher in all areas.
down hill for mesquaki
Mesquaki used to be our destination of choice...when we live 10 minutes from Prarie Meadows...but due to a very sluggish economy...Mesquaki has chosen to cut back players rewards to virtually nothing. It was more a slap in the face...then rewards so we will curtail our trips to Mesquaki...its as if they don't seem to think we are losing enough. The hotel is acceptable along with the buffet...but I have seen much better of both at Mystic lake and Redwing...in Minnesota. Quite honestly the state of Iowa is probably to blame for the decline at Mesquaki...we now have too many casinos...for a much smaller population than Illinois...Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Really sad it was a very nice casino...but in my opinion they have gone down considerably.
One of our favorite places
We go at least once a year. It is the best as far as friendliness and clean. Can't say much for winning, but you can't always count on that. We are going in a couple of weeks with a bus group. Really looking forward to it. Has really improved although we always did like it.
much improved 2011
In reading the other reviews, those people haven't been there lately. They serve liquor. Rooms are spotless. Everyone working there is most helpful. They go out of their way to help. Food vastly improved. New games everywhere. Live entertainment on weekends- free. More improvements being made. Place is always hopping when we've been there. Will go back without a doubt as regular even though we have to travel a distance to get there. Usually bring home good amount of money we took or more. If your machine isn't winning, stop beating a dead horse! Many, many more machines to choose from!
My wife and I play in casinos all over the U.S and I can say in all honesty we found the lousiest one in North America by far. Staff was horrible, food was low grade, slots didn't cough up a dime on $500 and the dealers didn't want to seem to be bothered. Stay away from this place. If you're looking for fun and a good time set your money on fire in the parking lot because you wont find a good time here.
I miss Mskwaki. I live in black hawk county but have done most of my gambling in tama always had a great time would be there for hours the employees were helpful food was good slots paid well. I would spend alot but also won alot.
We have the isle in waterloo but i still prefered tama. The last year has been a different story, however, now i go to the isle because i havent won enough to even play for a hour on 300 dollars.
It is not as clean, not as nice, I'm so dissapointed i wish you had stayed small you are like the indian casinos in minnesota now big and empty. Even your best patrons are going to the isle. You really screwed up! You were the best place in iowa - now the worst!
So sad. A lot of us miss the old tama please do something to draw us back: loosen up, clean up, and make patrons feel welcome.
The playing action of this casino has really gone downhill! What in the world happened? Many of the large progressive jackpots have been eliminated, or downsized. For example, the dollar version of Sizzling Sevens with a progressive jackpot of $3000 has been downsized to quarter version and starting jackpot of $250. Monopoly has been eliminated. Wizard of Oz has been downsized from four machines to two. The 10 times pay nickel game with its multi-thousand jackpot has been removed. If you are looking for high paying progressives, you will have to visit the High Limit Room now.
Many of the games are simply outdated. They have an over abundance of first generation video poker machines. Popular games such as Zeus and Jungle Wild are limited to two machines each, in the whole building. You are NOT going to find any new games such as WMS's Hot Hot Super Respin Series (Zeus II, Palace of Riches III, Hearts of Venice... etc). You are NOT going to find Jungle Wild II. They do however have the new video QuickPick Progressive slots.
They do have a variety of slots, but as I stated, many of these are older games. The machines could use a good cleaning. Some of the buttons do not work. Many of the games have issues accepting cash and tickets.
The overall playing action is tight. There used to be a time when I could go to Meskwaki with $300 and have it last for many hours. Many times I could bring money home. This is no longer the case for me.
I tend to go to the casino late at night. There used to be quite a crowd, even overnight. Now there are only a few cars in the parking lot at night. Perhaps it's the poor economy. Perhaps it's because gamblers are going elsewhere.
WHAT HAPPENED TAMA
What happened Meskwaki? You went from the best casino in Iowa to the worst.
Your slots are tighter than ever, your casino needs a good cleaning. The food
isn’t as good, and you give nothing away.
I live in Blackhawk County and have gone there for the last 10 years,
but will save my time and money for Dubuque and the Isle. You ought to downsize
and go back to the way you used to be.
Your customers made you what you are, treat us better and take some pride
again. Let the Vegas people come back. They knew what they were doing, get rid
of Mr. Bear. Everyone I know feels the same way. I like to at least have fun for
my money, but don't go there anymore. I wont ever go back.
First of all the food was AWFUL and it didn't help that the staff was unattentive and obviously disinterested in leaving the buffet customers happy. The players club offered nothing spectacular and again the unattentive employees were running the place.
The casino itself is a nice gaming area, slots were tight and from the regular customers i chatted with it has only been getting worse with the economy. Not enough table games, but the blackjack dealer I had was knowledgable and tried to be friendly.
As a whole I had a fairly unsatisfactory gaming experience at Meskwaki. The customer service was LOUSY and the gaming wasn't much better. Great facility that has a bunch of potential but they need player club help, host help, and their food manager should be fired for its unprofessional staff.
This is one of the best casinos I have been to. Very friendly, clean, helpful. They just added more rooms and bigger gambling floor.
